Root Verizon update failed - need to root

LONG story here but basically the update Verizon pushed out has totally messed up my phone. HTC and Verizon both agree and are arguing over how they are going to help me. But in the meantime I NEED to have phone tomorrow and their only recommendation is to try to root it. Of course they are not helping with that, only pointing me to the "internet".

So help? What is the best and safest way to root my HTC Incredible by Verizon so I can get my phone back?

Is the phone in bootable,working condition? The best,safest way to root would be the "root,downgrade,s off" thread,stickied at the top of the page
