Verizon->Update->Gmail Issue

1st time poster. . .

Ever since the update last weekend my gmail app will not sync automatically when I get emails into my account. . . I have to hit the menu / sync button every time I want to see if I have new emails. . . before the would come in and I would get a notification within seconds.

Gmail App / Menu / Settings / Email notifications/ is checked ON.

I don't know what to do. . .wish i never did the update.

I believe it was posted in a couple of other threads, but any chance you all are using a task killer and have killed the Google Talk (GTalk) service? It appears to be related to Gmail being pushed. Food for thought.

have you guys tried Frisco's theory on the factory reset. Just make sure your contacts are sync'd and use astro or something to back up your apps.

From the home screen try Menu/Settings/Accounts & sync
Make sure sync is checked. Make sure all of your accounts are set correctly as well

Yup, I would do a factory reset. You won't lose anything stored on your SD card (pics, music, etc.), you can reinstall all your apps after the reset, and your contacts, calendar, etc. should resync from google (just give it some time after the reset, should only take a few minutes). Just make sure all your contacts are saved as "google" contacts not "phone" contacts.

I finally found the setting above though may just try the factory reset caise other stuff Is weird Luke sudden +aside keyboard lag while I post this.

coming from the root side of things, I've got set up to finish time down to about 7 minutes. I've flashed so many roms my phone should be called desmond humme!

Seriously, a factory reset will save you so many headaches. For some, it can be a pain to get your phone set back up the way you had it (I actually consider it kind of fun), but it gives you an opportunity to clean out your phone and only reinstall the apps you truly need. It's kind of like spring cleaning.

+1 I always find myself saying "meh, I don't really need that" everytime I reinstall apps.

thanks for all the help. . I did a factory reset and it seems to be working. .

I used the backup restore program. . . helped a lot. . my issue now is the phone synced all my facebook and gmail contact list.

I only wanted it to sync the "my contacts" from my gmail. . .

any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Menu >> Settings >>Accounts & sync >>uncheck facebook

Once again, thanks for all the help.

Hopefully this will be my last question.

after a contact is already in my phone how do i link them to their facebook profile. . .(for the picture)

well, I did a factory reset and still Gmail will not automatically check my messages when they come in. . I have to force it to sync all the time.

Call tech support and see if they can help. Also have you checked online to see if you have a setting in Gmail that might be causing the issue. I wouldn't know where to tell you to look, but it wouldn't hurt to check.
