[Verizon] Updates after Root

Hi, so I'm this [ ] close to making the leap and rooting my first phone. I'm just a little nervous. For one thing, I know I'm lazy. I usually do something once and hardly ever return to it.

I'm a little worried about the OTA updates and updates for kernels. Let's say I root my phone, install a flashy new kernel, and customize my phone so it looks EXACTLY as I want it.

3 days later, 4.0.3 comes out and there's an OTA update and a subsequent update for whatever kernel I've installed... will putting the new version of the kernel wipe my phone again? Will I have to customize it all over?

I love having options, but I also love having things seamless. I don't want to root my phone if it commits me to monthly maintenance on it.

Some advice would be very much appreciated

dreadnatty08 has a point...once you start flashing ROMS and kernals, it is something that you will be hooked on for the rest of your android days! I hate to mention it and I will probably catch hell for it...but there is a one click method to unlock & root...unroot & flash back to stock. It is still better to learn how to use ADB first before you start to use something like this incase something goes wrong.

For kernel updates your home screen shouldn't change. For roms it will but if you use Nova Launcher you can back it up and restore it pretty easy.

Thank you...beat me to it.

Do you normally wipe cache before switching kernals? I always have and if this is not needed it would be a huge time saver.

Always wipe Cache and Davlik before ANY flash just as a precaution and it is definitely needed for a kernel change. Data/Factory resets generally just for ROM changes.
