WHY SETTLE?
Get the Samsung Galaxy S® 6 on the

**Free 2-Day Shipping when you order online Monday–Friday by 4:00 pm. Available for purchases placed on ........ for delivery within the U.S. only, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

Offers & coverage, varying by svc., not available everywhere; see ......... While supplies last. Restocking fee may apply. Verizon Edge: Subject to Customer and Edge agreements and credit approval.

( and that "free shipping" has been with Verizon for at least 20 years, every phone I have bought from them "had free shipping". Also note that upgrade fee is $40, it used to be $30, and the termination fee is higher than any I have had before. Yup Verizon, you do sling a lot of stuff to us, but I ain't buying)

at least, I won't be buying any replacement cellphones until the ones that we have now refuse to work anymore. The two S5 phones we have are still Flagship status, and I seriously doubt that any improvement on the S6 would just really bowl me over and make me fawn for one.

Anyway, other than noting the above, just a mention that Verizon is now selling the S6 for those of you who desire to go after one. I promise I won't be jealous of your newer, better toy... I just can't afford to throw out the old ones.

So first question...

Why Verizon?

...

No really, I'm not joking.

Why not? Cuz Tmo is so much cheaper? No it isn't. Nor is ATT, nor is Sprint. I've done the math on all of them for my 3 smartphone lines and Verizon is the cheapest option of them all for me with my 18% corporate discount which a LOT of people get (+ or - a few %).

I've been around these and other forums for many years now and I constantly see people amazed that some people stay on Verizon. Well, for many of us, it's the best coverage AND the lowest pricing. Even more so if you've been with them for years and are grandfathered into older plans.

I'm UK but don't vzw have a reputation for seriously locking down their phones?

You talking bootloader? Then yes, vzw and att are a practical guarantee to be locked. I don't keep up much on Sprint in that regard. TMO has been leaving some of their flagships unlocked as of late. A point worth considering I will admit.

I see, Verizon (in my area) has one of the worst plans here. (like 1gb for $40) but I see how the Grandfathered plans make people stay.

In my state Tmobile is the cheapest having a $30 prepaid plan that has 5GB, 100Min Talk, Unlimited Text.

That's cool I guess.

I've done the math several times over the last year as I consider switching. Even with my corporate 18% discount available with Verizon, T-Mobile still comes out cheaper.

I like my carriers how I like my women ... cheap and easy. ;)

Unfortunately, as in real life, what you want is not what you get. And no, Mr. Jagger, you don't get what you need, either. :p

As for the Verizon "deal", do they specify that the smartphone you are trading in must be in working order? I have a few junkers that could be traded in, once the dust and grape jelly were wiped off them.

I knew this thread would get a lot of fun poking and that is as it should be.
I have been with Verizon for 20 years now. Why?
Simply because after all the number crunching is done, I get "the best coverage" with the same costs, or nearly the same as any of those "other guys" out there with the "come on deals" that expire in 6 months.

Add to that, the cost of changing over, reformatting new phones, and discovering all over again, that BFE carrier just does not fill in the low lying areas around where I work and play...

I am constantly in areas where AT&T fizzes out for my co-workers and yet my Verizon signal is still there.... and yes, there are times when VZW is gone and AT&T is still working but at only a '1 bar' or so.... it all depends on where the cell site is located, your terrain, and how far out you are. Where I work most of the time, the closest cell site is 10 to 15 miles away.

I used to get the Corporate Discount also, and VZW allowed me to keep it for 3 years after I retired..... well, actually, my emplorer paid for me to keep the discount and then the ReBudgeting Process came into play.... and guess what? Retirees are fallow ground.... gud bye buddie.... and I lost my discount. That hurt me worse than any plan change could have.

EDIT: I am both "retired" and "employed as a summer worker for the county highway department"
I got bored and FAT in the BELLY.... from Recliner Exercises or the lack thereof.
so, I got up and started walking on the job again.

Continue to enjoy your S5 and its SD card slot, replaceable battery, and non all glass body that will break the first time it gets dropped.
Samsung listened to the idiots and went for "pretty" over function.

You read my lips ;),

all three of those features are a necessity in my opinion.

I thought I'd miss sd slot when I moved from Samsung to a 16gb OPO but as I'm not a gamer and don't use my phone for music it hasn't been a problem at all. I have all my apps on and like 6gb free.
The non removable battery isn't an issue either as its big enough to last all day.
The s6 on the other hand I've read some dire reports of its battery life so I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

It's like Samsung ignored all the issues users of the iPhone 4 and Nexus 4 had when implemented glass back panels. Personally, I feel the 2k displays don't add much over 1080p but drain the battery much faster. Users who went from the LG G2 to G3 noticed the same as those going from S5 to S6. :(

I looked at an S6 on sale and compared that display to my S5 for similar apps.
My eyes could not detect any discernible difference.

It's just a headline spec as far as I'm concerned. 720p was enough for my crappy eyes but 1080 is perfect

Low-end midrange phones. Like the L70, thank lord it has ROM support. Or I would have killed myself.
I did that for years, took the lowest cost phone offered, always the 99cent phone.

Back before my S5, all a phone was for, was to "reach out and touch someone" :)

Now, I would be lost without my Instant Internet Device anywhere, anytime.

How quickly we acclimate to something better.

The quickest way for terrorists to put us all in a huge dither would be to turn OFF all of our electrical utilities at the same time. World wide...

Within hours, we would discover what humanity is all about.
Unless you are a farmer, you would starve within a few days.
No water unless you had access to a hand pump/well or a running stream (contaminated by bacteria)
No grocery stores, no fuel for our vehicles.... talk about pandemonium.

Honestly I love a good flagship like the next guy. But mostly I have low-end phones is because of money. Also I always buy prepaid or off ebay because I hate getting into 2 year contracts.

Should I give a completely different spin? Why not use MVNOs instead, esp. if your area is restricted (i.e. you don't have a traveling job), and even if you travel, many MVNOs offer roaming. VZW user can use PagePlus.

US market is most third world market when it comes to cellphone regulations and I refuse to give them that money, so I always buy a brand new phone out of pocket and use MVNOs. If you get tired of your new phone, you can always sell it off on ebay or similar, and get a new one.

I use Black Wireless, DW uses PTel. No complaints.

Guess I'm just not one of those who throws their phone around breaking screens and/or backs. When I first picked up the S6 at BB the other day, I knew it was the phone I wanted. The back on my G2 is just unpleasant and has had a case on it since day 1 just to cover it. I'm looking forward to all this glass and I'll be sure to post back when I (don't) break it. ;)

Hi Bread, hope all is well. I remember how paranoid I was with breaking the back glass on my Nexus 4 because it wasn't nearly as strong as the front glass. Luckily, I made it until the Nexus 5 came out completely intact. Hopefully the S6 glass is stronger than the nexus 4's was.

Hey man good to see you. Curiosity question...did BB price match for you at $599?
