[Verizon] What is TWRP?

When I search the market for it, it gives me "Recovery Manager" which flashes the same apps as ROM Manager, CWM and CWM Touch recovery (this is what I use). Is TWRP the same?

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a lot like CMW or CMW Touch but is preferred by a lot of people, including myself. You can get the latest version HERE which can be flashed in recovery, just be sure to download the Toro version.

No the nandroids are not interchangeable. Worst case if you have a nandroid that you absolutely can't live without you can flash it, load on TWRP and make a nandroid in that so you have it. But I have found that I haven't had to do that. I personally like TWRP much more than CWM, it has a fresh new interface and a few every nice options... i've never had an issue with it.
 
Thanks, guys. Just flashed 2.2 through Goo and backing up now and hoping to load up JB 3.6 soon. Loving the new interface so far. :D
As much as I respect Koush, I don't know what happened. Really hope he doesn't go the way of SPRecovery (which I highly doubt he would).
 
Thank you everyone. I loaded it and love it so far. Is there a way to boot into the old CWM or is that gone forever?

My concern: my original back up nandroid ( i have one before root and then right after root) are still ON my SD card... just not accessible unless I reflash to CWM correct?

You are correct, the backups are stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backups, you could pull them out of the phone and keep them saved on your computer if you wanted.
 
On my HP Touchpad, I can have TWRP (which I use exclusively) and CWM installed. I like the CWM just in case there's a problem with TWRP not working with a certain script OR if i need to restore an old backup created with CWM. The Touchpad does not have the touch version of CWM so that's a no-brainer.

I'd like to also have both installed with my GN, but do have the touch CWM (purchased).

Now my Nexus 7 is less than a week old, so could easily just start with TWRP since I don't have a ton of backups that would need CWM to install.
 
not to hijack too much, but since this is a new user thread I thought maybe this applies... Is there some kind of user manual or something for TWRP? I like all the extra options that it offers, but that also means that I don't know what half the stuff does.

I would be willing to experiment, but that could be dangerous, especially considering they have the option to erase your entire SD card, and other things which would probably be even worse...
