Root [Verizon] When to Root?

I received my GN2 yesterday, and have been playing with it ever since, but have not yet activated it. I know that I am going to want to root at some point, and from a quick read of the thread at XDA it looks like that will involve doing a factory reset at that point?

So my question is, does it matter if I root before or after I activate the phone? I'm also guessing that I should root before going crazy downloading programs and doing a ton of customizations?

There is no factory reset involved in rooting.
There is a factory reset involved in unlocking the bootloader but only if there are issues.

You can use titanium back up to save apps and app data. Some launchers, like Nova launcher allow you to create a backup of the layout and settings you created for your homescreens etc. to load after you flash a new rom/ do a factory reset.

I don't know for certain if it matters if you root your phone before you activate it or not, but I don't think it would cause any problems.

Personally, I'm gonna give it a little bit more time before I root my Note 2 and flash any ROMs; usually there's a few kinks that need to be ironed out in the early stages, and good ROM support will take time.

Not looking to do any custom ROMs just yet, but would like to delete/freeze some bloatware, and there are a couple of other things I want to do that I think require root. I guess I'll activate first, just in case being root causes any issues with activation.

The OS can already disable most of the crapware.

I really want to delete the Verizon bookmarks, I've managed to delete all but one of them, which redirects to another page when I load it (so I can't use the history trick to unbookmark it.)

I assume you're referring to the stock browser which I don't use. I couldn't disable it with the OS, so I froze it in titanium.
