[Verizon] Where are we at with ROMs and Wallet?

I'm trying to get on the custom ROM bandwagon but before I do, I have concerns when it comes to Wallet, NFC functionality, and the secure element error.

Right now I'm rooted, have Wallet installed through the apk method, and have used it a few times on the prepaid debit card.

Can you install a ROM and keep the Wallet functionality and not run into the various errors and lockouts? What is the best way to do it? Thanks all for your help!

Are you asking which ROMs have Google Wallet?

I'm running Bugless Beast (4.0.3) Version IML74K and it comes with Google Wallet native.

As in, I've heard of people having trouble when they've used Wallet before on stock 4.0.2 then tried to use it on a custom ROM.

Like on Pete's that has it natively, will I be able to log into it and have the same prepaid Google card #, remaining balance, and just use it normally?

I believe that the secure element lockout was due to flashing 4.0.3 and then back to 4.0.2 but I'm not entirely sure. I've flashed all of AOKP and I've never had a problem with activation GW. I get a little tired of the email notifying me with each flash but I can certainly live with that as long as it works.

I started with the apk method, still have it on my sdcard, but the latest roms come with it preinstalled as Jedii noted. I would not flash back to 4.0.2 if you upgrade to .3.

edit: just saw your question. I was running it on 4.0.2 (yikes, I think so.. was so long ago now) before I flashed .3 and it still works, same account, same amount of money left. I'll ask around and get back.

Exactly. The rom I'm using is 4.0.3. I haven't had a problem using it. I don't use it a lot, but I know the dev personally, and he lives off GW. So, that alone tells me you should be good to go.

I looked around and no one definitively knows what causes the secure element error. I'm beginning to believe that it's a hardware fault and not a software issue. But since GW is not supported on the phone no matter what you're running, if you have a burning desire to flash a new rom then you're probably safe. I usually keep a low balance just in case it craps out and I lose my money.

edit: ok so some have gotten the secure element error upgrading to 4.0.3 which means you're totally locked out of GW unless you get a new phone. The nfc chip will work, just not anything with security. So be careful.

I have heard people having success if the reset Wallet in the app and clear data before flashing. Any truth to this?

Yeah I saw that. I have not had a problem with flashing a rom with Wallet incorporated, or one without wallet and restored from Titanium. Not sure what to tell you since I have it working. It also depends on how much you depend on it and your priorities. Point being I don't want to tell you to do something and have it screw up.
