Root [Verizon] WOW! What a week..

Hard drive on my laptop is failing quickly. (Ordered new one)

Flat tire this afternoon on truck on way home from jobsite. (NEED new tires)

Laid SGS3 on ground near me while changing said flat tire. Dropped tire iron on face of said SGS3 - CRACKED screen

Have already filed claim online against the insurance on the device and by this time tomorrow evening, I should have a new (refurbished?) device.

Not looking forward to having to re-root and unlock bootloader since it's been so long ago that I did it, I'm going to have to start at square one - like a n00bie :D

Which method is the prescribed 'best' way to do the root process these days? What's the deal with this "One Click Root"? Anyone with experience have important info they'd like to share?

Thanks for your input :)

Someone say "tires" ? :D
Man, that sucks dk :( I wish I was a fly on your truck when that happened. I can just see your reaction.

I have not personally used the "one click" method, but I've heard of folks having good luck using it. Some have had issues, but for the most part, works awesome!

Dam man that's a rough day. All I can recommend to help the transition to the new phone is . . . Do a full backup of the busted one & copy it to your computer. When you get the replacement, why not try the 1 step root . . . Seems to work reliably . . . Then copy the backup you transferred & do a restore on the new phone. In theory, should be just like powering up your old phone. Btw . . . I think a certain mod on here works @ a tire supplier . . . Maybe he can help you out with that tire situation :p

Hahaha! Funny :)

Actually I think I handled it pretty good since I've been expecting it for some time. I have gotten EVERY penny's worth of life out of the set... they're like baloney skins :what:

Well, I'll try to keep a full report updated and I'm sure I'll have a question or two along the way! Thanks for 'being there' :p

Thanks Talon! That sounds like a good plan to me, I'll keep you posted how it goes.

As for that mod you referenced.... Oh, THAT mod:D. If I was closer to his area, we might just do business! I shouldn't take it across town let alone out of state!

Wow . . . I'm impressed ! You're Still able to type & post threads on your cracked screen. That has to be challenging

OK....Here we gooooooo :p

What would happen if I were to take my sim card from my current device and install into the new one? Would the device boot up as my 'old' one? Just askin'!

Nah . . . The sim transplant will only transfer your phone # & service. You need to recover to a saved backup to get your "old phone" back

That's kinda what I thought but wanted/needed confirmation! Thank you Sir :smokingsomb:

Do you think it's possible to take a nandroid backup from device A and restore it to device B? Is that what you mean?

I'm not sure that is possible?

Yes. I have done it with my 2 phones. Copied a backup from my phone to my wife's. Went into recovery on hers & recovered to my backup. Booted up . . . Was literally my phone on hers. Even my boot animation was there.

Her device was rooted, yes?

Really wierd having a bone-cold stock VZW SGS3 TW and all man!!! YUK!

I gotta get this thing rooted...but not sure it's gonna happen tonight though. I'm restoring my laptopm hard drive at the same time as messing with the new SGS3 :p

You guys standby now, ya hear? :D

Interesting...I say that because on my old Evo, it was not recommended to do that as some info privy to the device, could only be used on that device.

Now I know that was an old device, HTC, etc. Nice to know that it can work with at least our devices:D

(I used the word "privy" :p I sound like I know stuff eh? The word popped into my head and I used it because it sounded good :D )

Hang in there dude.. I was sitting at my desk at work last Wednesday and a tractor trailer truck fishtailed into my car, totaling it, and the insurance company is trying to give me half of the book value for it :(

Privy . . . Nice ! Actually, you are correct. The folder that TWRP creates to load/store the backups is unique to each device. I just took the backup that my phone created & dropped it into her phone's unique TWRP backup folder, & just verified permissions/ownership. Worked very well.

Not good. Sorry to hear that :(

Well, it's 8:30, I've been messing with this all afternoon and STILL am trying to figure out this VRALEC **** file that I dl'd and am suppose to flash it thru Odin. I can't figure out which file goes where - ie, PDA = ? PHONE = ? CSC = ?

It's very confusing. Any comments, help would be sorely appreciated:o
