Verizon's Note 2

I went to Best Buy and they just got in the Demo model of the Note 2 for Verizon.

I just wanted to let you know of some changes I noticed compared to other Note 2s.

First thing is the digital clock widget is gone. This is the clean simple clock widget you see just the time and date on. This was kind of disappointing to me.

Second thing is there is no wifi toggle on the top of the notifications. Instead it has an ongoing notification which can kill battery life faster.

The third thing I want to note (no pun intended) is that Verizon's version DOES in fact have the multitasking ready to go. You won't have to wait for an update for this feature.

I wish I could have tested reception but Best Buy doesn't activate any of their demo phones.

Excuse me..... what? Why in the world would the Wifi toggle on the notification bar be removed? There is no logic beyond Verizon wanting to make it slightly more difficult to turn it off and hope people forget to turn it on.... using more limited data. Nothing should be altered, just added. I'm doubting this one. If you are right then Verizon may have just lost me as a customer.

The clock widget probably just needs to be added back and is found under the widget menu.

First and foremost, I feel horrible that you've all had to wait so long and are STILL waiting. I hope the release gets here sooner than later.
As for the Wi-Fi toggle, did you make sure to scroll through all of them? Sprints version has ten toggles, while I believe the international version has more than ten. It's also possible that the Verizon version could have the ability to enable/disable specific toggles and while this is doubtful, I'd at least look for it under settings.

I don't quite understand what you mean by ongoing notification for WiFi. The only thing I can think this would be is the notification when you are using WiFi hotspot. It shows up in the left corner as a blue WiFi signal and also in the pull down menu where it says how many devices are connected to it OR hotspot active touch to configure. Maybe you are getting this confused with the normal WiFi toggle switch.

That sounds exactly like what Verizon did with the S3. They removed the wifi toggle, and instead there is a notification that is always present stating what wifi you are using or may be available to use if you have it turned off. Annoying as hell and cannot be removed (easily that is, I believe there is a work around now but not sure).

Does anyone, by chance, know if the Verizon version of the Note 2 will have the different screen settings (I believe there is standard, movie, natural, and one other). That is another feature that the international version had, but Verizon eliminated.

Thanks

You're right. I did a search on the GS3 and found Verizon did this just before reading your post.

I may very well wind up with a T-Mobile Note II. I've just had it with Verizon's bullshit.

Is is exactly the same thing they did with the S3. It has an ongoing notification letting you know you are connected to wifi or telling you there are wifi connections available but the normal wifi toggle is gone. The ongoing one is going to drain battery life.

As far as the clock widget, no I checked the widget menu and it was not there. For some reason Verizon decided to remove it. It has an analog clock widget but not the digital one. It also has dual digital clock which will display 2 clocks in the same widget. There is no single digital clock widget that I found. I really don't understand why Verizon would mess with something like a clock widget.

Is this what we are talking about here ?

I guess I don't understand the complaint then. It's actually more convenient being there IMO.

I despise not having a clean notification center. Apparently it will be impossible to actually clear notifications on this phone. May be a deal breaker for me. I guess I'd have to get a Razr maxx HD instead. I can't deal with the limited storage on the DNA. What the actual **** were they thinking?

DO IT!! If you are in a decent TMo area anyhow.

I did just this. Cut a month off my wait in doing so! BL unlocked also so I have all the toggles I might desire and the Multiwindow stuff also as part of a custom rom! How long before a VZW one has BL encryption circumvented for normal safe rom switching????

I wish. :( The fact is... even in the LA-metro area T-Mobile is iffy and unreliable. Add the fact that I do take long road trips and use data the entire way. T-Mobile won't be ready for consideration for 2 years. I just needed to vent. They were my first carrier when I started with the Sidekick II as my first cell phone. I went to AT&T from there and then ultimately Verizon. Each was better than the previous carrier in service.

I will be staying with Verizon, only because going to AT&T would mean being put on tiered data, until Google Wireless goes live. We know it's coming. We know Verizon will respond by correcting their plan offerings and removing tiered-data, but I will not give them another penny of my money and will gladly give my financial support to Google for doing the right thing.

I see. That sucks. I am curious to see how travelling with TMo works out after it's known they have the UMTS AT&T sharing turned on. I can find zero info on when or how that happens.

I hope someone fixes that notification. That is going to bug the crap out of me. I'll pay a developer to do it.

Fully AGREE! I had a S3 on VZW with that stupid notice. It was one of the reasons it got returned! Not the main reason, but when I added up the other 3 things, it was one of the factors. They did come out with a way to kill it after root I believe. I hope it holds true with the Note 2.
That really irks me...

We are all aware you can toggle these things by going into the menu right? :P Or if you download a launcher I'm sure you can add a wifi toggle switch :D

You can toggle what? If you can make the notification go away with a toggle, then I don't have a problem. If I have to replace the launcher to make it go away, then we have a problem?

Exactly. On the S3, you cannot get rid of the notice. Its always there.

someone on another forum posted this:

This will work on the S3, but not sure about the GN2. I cant take credit for it, but here it is:

Open the dialer and enter the following code: *#6335623#
This will open "HiddenMenuWifiOffload" menu.
Select "Disable WifiOffloading"
Press "OK"
Done!
