Very dumb person...memory storage question

In May of 2011, to make a long story short, my Droid Incredible started going into reboot loops. I have photos and videos on there of a family member who passed away after I got the phone. I was terrified of attempting to have the phone fixed, for fear those would be lost -- so, like a complete idiot, I have let the phone sit UNTOUCHED since May.

I just decided to try recharging it and nothing happens. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I assume I need to get a new phone. But I have never fully understood the phone memory versus sd card memory issue -- whether this is a choice that the user makes at some point, whether ANYTHING is on the sd card unless you specifically move it there...I'm assuming that any photos/videos on the sd card would be all right even if the phone is a goner. But once the phone has "died," is there any way of getting at the phone memory?

And yes, I know I sound like a mental case and a dope...my stupid behavior all related to panic about those photos/videos, which mean so much to me -- and now I figure that by waiting so long to deal with this, I may have ruined them all. Thanks if anyone can give me any advice.

Have you tried another battery? A used rechargeable battery which was left sitting around for almost a year can lose all capacity.

My HTC stores all photos on the SD card, which I've always assumed would be the norm. Try popping the card in a reader (they are very cheap if you don't have one) and see what's on there. I think you'll find you are OK.

When the reboots started was it caused by flashing a new rom? If so there may still be hope of getting it to work again, so you can take everything off.
