Help Very Frustrated

I have three issues with this phone and I've only had it for two hours. I was extremely hyped about it, and am now extremely disappointed; hopefully someone can help.

1. Text Messages. Sometimes I receive them, more often than not, I don't. People have said they have been texting me all morning and I've only got one or two total. I'm using the standard SMS app that came with the phone. This is a huge problem for me, and need it fixed asap or it's going back today.

2. Call quality is awful. There's a bad echo/tin can sound on the ear speaker, and it's extremely annoying. Almost makes me cringe to even talk on the phone.

3. One of the only apps I've installed is Touiteur and it won't validate my Twitter account. Peep worked fine, but when I try to connect this with my account, I get a message about it not being able to validate my account.

Is anyone else having these issues? My extreme excitement for this phone has dwindled down to extreme frustration and I'm on the verge of returning it. Thanks for the help.

Sounds to me like you may have a defective phone. I get all my texts, sound quality is amazing, and I don't use twitter or peep so I can't help you there.

But before you take it back to the store, hows the service were you are using the phone. Some of what you mentioned sounds like network issues.

You could also try doing a "Hard Reset" (search it if you don't know what it is) to see if that would help. Could be a bad configuration or something.

The phone really does kick some ass, so I hope you are able to get to the bottom of the issue. Keep us informed as to what you find out.

1) did you just port your phone number?
2) could be a bad device. Mine sounds better than my HTC Incredible on Verizon actually.

My sound quality is pretty darn good.

My son said that on Monday, his emails and texts did not come in for a few hours, then he was blasted with a bunch. Don't think it happened again since then.

I think Evo is just dandy! LOL

The Sprint coverage in my area, according to the coverage map, is superb. I notice my signal jumping up and down every now and then, however, even when sitting in the same place.

I did do a port, but it was done at 9:30am this morning.

Yea I think the people here who have responded are on to something. If you just ported you wont always get everything right away. It takes some time for everything in the network to get it worked out. I would give it a day or so and see how it goes. They rep that sold you the phone should have mentioned that this might happen. I think you will be golden my tomorrow.

I agree with the rest... on launch day it took HOURS just for the activations to go through and even when they did it was still messed up..

I think if you give it 24 hours or so and see how it goes you might be surprised. :)

Thanks for the help, guys.

I think it may be an issue with my coverage area. Went out and about for a bit and had no problems texting with Sprint/Verizon folks but when it came to AT&T, spotty at best...

Sound quality it GREAT on mine. Also I get all my texts just fine too.

Too bad my mem card keeps corrupting but hey! :D

Roadblock, have you downloaded the OTA update they threw out to fix that? I've yet to have an issue with this, and I listened to music off the SD card (I put 5 gb of tunes on it for work) and listened for 4 hours straight today, not one issue with corruption or mis-reads.

I posted this on another thread, but I had that bad sound quality and was thinking about exchanging the phone to see if another unit would be better. Someone on the forum suggested I update my profile and prl first and that seems to have fixed the call quality! It's under system updates in settings. Hope it helps you, too. I know exactly what you mean about the call quality. My ears were actually ringing after talking for a bit.

UPDATE:

My messaging is getting a little better. Finally seems like its actually hitting its groove, however...The battery on this phone is unbelievably horrible.

I took the phone off the charger at 8:19pm with a full battery, and by 8:35pm with only moderate use, it was down to 82%. That is totally unacceptable. Now it is 8:53pm, and I'm already down to 73% battery.

I have two more days before I can't return it and reinstate my line on AT&T without charge. I LOVE this phone but this I can't live with.

the first couple days my battery was horrible. It takes a couple days to break in the battery.

Now 5 days later my battery is amazing.

Talked on the phone for an hour straight today, and about another hour of just random talk. Played pandora over the speaker for 2.5 hours. Did emailing and texting the whole day.

Unplugged since 12 pm and at 7:15 pm i still have 45% left.

Glad that worked out for you! Just worried that it won't for me, then I'll be stuck with this phone and Sprint if it doesn't improve after 3 days.

Posted my last response 30min ago and I'm down to 67% from 73%.

I wish I could remember before what my top apps were...I've had SystemPanel on here since I got it, but I decided to try ATK now with Auto killing all but the necessary apps when the screen turns off and the battery is doing much better (comparatively speaking).

I've gone down 12% in the past hour with moderate use (a 5min phone call, two e-mails and a few failed text messages plus a ringtone edit) which is better than the 27% it went down that first 34min unplugged.

It's a ray of hope, but still a far cry from satisfactory...Maybe I'll turn of ATK and see what Panel tells me if the battery continues to plummet going this route.

BTW - Here's a screen of my Battery breakdown. I've seen other people's, and no one's has the OS as that high of a percentage???

Turn the auto kill off! Only kill apps with the built in killer.if you auto kill a app that wants to keep on running your battery silk die super fast. I found this out with my moment and task killer. Try removing task killer all together and see what happens. I don't kill apps at all and my evo is at 50% right now as i post with it.i took out off the charger at 7am.

My battery is actually doing a LOT better now that I have ATK auto-killing...

I wasn't going to use a killer at all, but decided to try it because of the horrible battery issues I've been having. It's paying off thusfar.

Another thing I did was followed the directions at the link below, and it has seemingly helped with my battery as well.

[How-To] Better battery life, reduce Time Without Signal. - xda-developers

LOL don't ask me for help when ATK starts jacking up your phone. Good luck with that.

It's the only thing that seems to be working. My phone doesn't last two hours without it.

I am open to other suggestions if you have any.

My battery has been subpar as well, but I'm going to give it a week before I do too much else to fix it. I woke up at 8 today (am ) and unplugged it. left it on until 7 ish when it was mostly dead.
1)I live in a 2 bar roaming area, for the 3 months I'm home
2) the phone was being used heavily the half hour it was on; gps for a half hour
3) it sat in the roaming area from noon till 7.

I think the roaming and low signal here is the main killer. 4g is off, gps and wifi stay on. We'll see in a week if any improvements are to be had.

You will only make your life with Android worse with a task killer. You have had the phone for one day and pulled the trigger because your port wasn't quite finished. Read this forum and some of the articles there. You think you will get better battery life from killing task, but that means you really don't understand why the apps are loaded into memory in the first place.

You could do this to really improve battery life, the root method is wicked easy. And I have been running the processor widget that they talk about. So far lots better.
