Help Very Hot Droid When Using GPS Navigation

I'm not sure if it's normal or not, but when I use Google navigator my phone gets really hot!
I use the car dock a lot and it doesn't matter whether i have it plugged in or running on battery, it still gets hot. I have seen it as high as 130 degrees before the phone eventually locks up and then shuts down. The only solution i have found is to turn the defroster on high and blast it with cold air.
I have also noticed the heat when I have used navigation hand held.
It usually takes less then 5 minutes to start hearing up

Is this typical?

I pull mine out of the case when I am using Google Nav for this very reason. I also try and position it so that a vent can blow some cold AC on it.

I had the same issue and found this to be a nice solution.

if rooted get the DX/D2 Overclocker and follow this video for underclocking it just a little bit. YouTube - ‪Increase your Droid X, 2's Battery life by up to 25%! (Root Needed)‬‏

I not Dx's are the same and mine ran 100% stable if i increased the voltages up one click but left the clock speeds the same.

so it was max VSEL 42
slot 1 16
slot 2 25
slot 3 34
slot 4 42

after doing this my phone only got luke warm to the touch and i never saw temps get above 102-3f during stability testing.

oh and it also saves a ton on battery life.
