Very Impressed

I just bought the P500 3Days ago, and i must say, its easily the best phone I've had...

I swore to myself a few years ago that i would NEVER touch an LG, after i used my friends' chatterbox, and when I went to Vodashop, and they recommended this over an HTC, i laughed in their faces, and all my friends laughed in mine, but after some persuasion and loads of research, i finally forced myself to grow a pair, and risk it, and it has been a great decision!

Now all my buddies are reconsidering buying iPhone's to buy an LG... Big LOL....

Nice job LG!

I also was not going to get an LG phone next...my first was a clamshell and the screen half went blank for good. My next was the LG dare which was ok but was a psuedo-smartphone that had a frustrating touch screen.

Well they have been improving all their products and the LG optimus 1 was the most affordable option right now so I guess I would give them "one" more chance.

I have had it for 3 days and so far I am also impressed. A lot of reviews call it a "budget" android phone...but I call it an affordable powerhouse because for 200 bucks you get quite a lot, with Froyo 2.2 to boot.

I won't jump the gun just yet so I will give it a few weeks before I give it a high recomendation but so far so good.

I will say Android is incredible, especially how open it is. All the things that are a pain to do with my Ipod Touch are a breeze with this phone. The touch screen on any other phone will not compare with Apple but considering the capabilites of Android it is a better overall OS.

Ditto, I had a viewty a few years ago and it was horrible.

This is fab

I have just upgraded to the Optimus One from the Google G1. The Optimus is a far better phone than the G1 was. Only thing is, not being able to download flash player.

this is my first android, at the beginning i loved it but when i see the rest of the phone and what limitations i have on O1 i wanted a better one to :D anyway O1 still kicks ass!

i told you i already want a better one :)) the games are really nice, the one gameloft have.. oau :O i want to play hawks but it s not running on O1 :D
i don't have budget for new phone so for at least a year i keep O1 because i got it at 2 years contract at vodafone :)

i got the phone since december and i have no trace of dust..
i hold it into a silicon cover when i'm indoor because i have a history of dropping phones and a full cover from nokia for outdoors to not scratch the phone and screen from the pocket

Yup I'm officially getting rid of this phone as of today. It doesnt suit what I want it to do. It's not so powerful as I hoped.

Look, i also wish it was more powerful, and has a better screen... But for R2500, ($250), its easily better than anything else, sure its not really made for gaming, but i have an iPod for that anyway... I just use this for some simple apps, and calls and SMS's, and i use my iPod for everything else... Im still diggin' it though, and have no regrets :)

overall o1 it's a good phone but if you want to play latest games don't buy it.
it does everything you expect from an android phone :) i want a more potent phone to play all available games but except this i love this phone.

it's one of the good mid range phone in the market. i only have one problem with this. i can't uninstall the taskiller pre-installed in it. iit gives me an error message "uninstall no successful".

taskiller are not needed on android phone, that's what ive read in a lot of threads that is why i really want to remove it to improved battery life.

Please help!

I'm also kinda impressed with this phone. And let's be honest, for that price range, this can get no better.
Unless you are ready to shell out the ~700 USD for the Thunderbolt... my God.. that is just too much buck for a smartphone :)

As far as the gaming goes, I guess it's a matter of personal choices.. I am holding my horses for the NGP, and I don't do much gaming on my iPod Touch 4th Gen.. even if it can run everything you throw at it. Mostly just Angry Birds and whatnot :p

I don't know, us geeks will always want the shinniest and most expensive things... and that's is a curse. If we were your regular Joe Doe we'd just get a Backberry and get over with it... :) But we don't.

But anyway, I think I'll sell my current Galaxies and get an Optimus One!

Maybe after I buy a lot of other gadgets I have my mind on and satisfy my thirst of consumerism... I'll reconsider getting a 700 dolla smartphone.

Well here is my update on the Optimus One, about 3 weeks in...

I am still impressed by the phone itself and it has a lot of bang for the buck. Now that some of that new phone lustre has worn off I can get a better perspective on this unit.

I can see how android is a great platform and if I had the money I would love to get something more powerful and a bigger screen. However like I said the One is a medium range good looking smartphone...but...

The dust under the screen is a big deal breaker here (I posted this in the troubleshooting forum). I mean not a day after the stock plastic screen film was peeled off I got white specks under the right corner of the screen. It didn't bother me at first as you could only see them when the phone was off and in direct light. Then I noticed on white backgrounds I saw dark specks (shadows from the dust). It was one of those things that once you notice you can never ignore.

I mean after I got the phone I read about the issue and I though it may have only affected a small few as I had none after 3 weeks. Then like I said I peeled the film off and a day later...

I am very careful with all my phones, especially when they are new so I was really disappointed.

How is this phone going to look after a couple months, never-mind after a year into my contract!?! Considering this is such a hot product now LG better get this fixed now or suffer lot of returns. In my opinion this calls for a recall and free replacement by LG.

It may not sound like a huge deal but it makes all the difference. As I stated in my earlier post I was hesitant with buying another LG and I was happy I did for about 3 weeks. Now this? This is totally unacceptable. I sort of hoped it was just my phone but to know it is happening all over sucks because I really don't want to get a replacement if it will just happen again and I really can't afford to pay for one of the other phones on a 2 year contract. The discounts are not that good and I really do not want to get a 3 year and get stuck with an outdated phone in 2 years. It's like getting a brand new LED monitor or HDTV and noticing a few dead pixels that were popping up every day. Let's face it people who get smartphones are not doing it just for the call quality.

Back to the LG One...thankfully I have a 30 day return policy. The only thing can hope for is that they replace it and it does not happen to the new phone. If it does I will return it again and again until they either give me a better discount on a better phone or let me out of my contract which is pretty much void if one of the reasons you signed on was to get a discount on a defect free phone.

Bottom line I cannot recommend this phone at all until this is resolved. DO NOT BUY unless you know the issue has been resolved.

ginn7, after you peeled the stock cover off... did you put in another one, or just left the screen "as-is"?
In the latter case, that is something I'd never do. I was surprised and thankful my O1, which I bought today, had that stock cover which doesn't suck (reminds me of the sucky Nokia 5800 XM stock cover which had stripes and a lot of other useless stuffed that called out loud "replace me inmediatly") and I can use for the time being while I get a better one.

I thought the stock cover was great too, it just peeled of a bit and I now regret removing it. The cover only protected the screen so I don't see how it covered any gaps that prevented any dust getting in from where the buttons are.

It had no cover for literally one day which was when I first noticed the dust getting in so I suppose the protector did something.

Still a cover should only be there to protect from scratches and my ipod hasn't has a protector for 3 years and the screen is in great shape.

As it stands now I ordered a new phone and I am not taking the stock screen protector off for as long as possible.

By the way I have tried to use other screen protectors but getting them on without dust and bubbles is almost impossible.

Can anyone recommend a quality screen protector that is easy to apply and is good quality?

ginn7, to have some clarity on this issue, could you please take a picture of the phone (googled could do fine) and point on it the exact areas where it started gathering dust?

PD: Sorry for the double post, forgot to edit... opps.

I tried to take a pic but it turns out out of focus and too much glare. There are some pics online but the ones I saw were much worse.

You know when you get random white specs of dust on your screen and they come off when you wipe the screen? Well picture them NOT coming off...lol:p
