Help Very Long Lag for GMAIL to Refresh

RECYCLER

Lurker
Hello all,

I am having big problems with receiving emails. On average all of my test email have taken over 2 minutes to arrive. Some where immediate but most were not.

I have NO idea what is going on.

Sync is on - gmail sync to be exact.

No other programs running - brand new phone.

Thank you.

Oh, I have a wireless hotspot - I turned it off, no drastic change in performance.

Anyone experiencing this?

I've had days where mail will arrive almost instantly and some where it can take a few minutes. Many times it can be their servers being slow or your connection. It sounds like it may be their servers in this case. Not surprising really when you think about how many people are bombarding it today with new information.

Just like the forum is being right now. ;)

Welcome to the forum!

I've seen the same thing on Gmail. Some days it is nearly instant. Others I'm constantly trying refresh and waiting ---- and this is on other Android phones.

I have both a Droid X and the Galaxy Nexus. I was having a bad lag getting emails from Gmail also.
However......................sitting side by side, both running wifi, i sent a test message to my gmail account. The X got it instantly and the Nexus got it 10 minutes later. Settings in the phones are the same??????????????

thanks for the welcome.

yeah, 2-3 minutes for an email is way too long. droid 1 and the bionic where much faster than this - less than 20 seconds lag

is anyone here getting emails consistently under 20 seconds?

thanks

I think it's pretty unlikely this has anything to do with the phone itself. Rather congestion on the internet somewhere.

And really, 2-3 minutes is ridiculously fast. Email was never designed to be instant communication. Before GMail got push notifications, it took at least 5 minutes between each refresh. Even like 15m-1hr for many people.

I dont mean to belittle the problem you're having, it would be great if email were instant, but a difference of 90 seconds is quite tiny.

My guess is that is all due to internet congestion too. A packet of data usually makes 10-20 hops before reaching you. Each of those could be causing the delay. So figure 10-20 hops for the email to send, and 10-20 for it to receive.

Give it a few days and see if it's consistent would be my advice. You may find this is more of a fluke than a problem :)

No issues here that I've noticed. On my DX I would often get an email notification before Gmail on my computer would register it.

Got a few emails this morning... get a notification within 30 seconds or so? A minute at most? Plenty quick for me.

I'm having this issue as well. I don't think it's due to internet congestion. On my old phone i would generally get the emails pushed to the phone before (or nearly simultaneous) to when they showed up on my desktop. Now they are showing up on my desktop 3-5 minutes before they get pushed to the phone.

I feel like it's a refresh rate issue. I haven't been able to find a setting for this...has anyone else?

Don't know what to tell ya... I haven't changed any email settings on my phone, and this morning I am getting email notifications consistently within 10-15 seconds of each other (Chrome browser on PC, and phone).

I guess it was just the network...well I also only have 3G

Working pretty nicely now - love the phone and OS by the way.

Very snappy
