Viber is here for Android (update at post 65)!!!

@ral -
Please note that at this stage we don't officially support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there. We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile - you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue.

* By the way, have you tried testing Viber on a Stock ROM on that same device?

@adzamoo -
Do you have Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) ?

And no one should expect that. If I cannot exit and keep it closed, I can leave it on the background. My current ROM seems to have gotten me another 2 hours in battery life or so, an Viber eats very little. Everything else works.

* By the way, have you tried testing Viber on a Stock ROM on that same device?

Have been using Viber for over a year or so. Not a heavy user since most my contacts are not online 24/7. No reflection on the app. Have made 3G and WiFi calls on it. Embarrassingly on a good HSDPA signal or decent WiFi call quality is better than my GSM network.

Have sent and received messages. If off, it receives the push notifications and powers on after it gets the message.

But I cannot answer your question. Two (or was it three days ago), I downgraded my ROM, rooted my phone, installed a custom ROM and flashed a radio. The Viber update came after I did all that.

Viber was working perfectly with my last stock ROM. Never rooted or used a custom ROM before three days ago.

Well, a problem with a Custom ROM may arise even if an older version of Viber was installed, and you install a new one. Meaning, the collision between Viber and a Custom ROM may only take effect when you install a new version of Viber, because new characteristics of it may not function well with the ROM.

I invite you to use this direct link and describe the problem to our support team: Your ticket details | Viber Support

However, please note that the answer might be the same :/

I am a senior recently purchased a Nexus 7. I am unable to see the compose feature for Gmail. Can I obtain it or reinstall? Thanks

Great job on Viber. One thing I would like to see is a way to enlarge the text. I only recently noticed on my friend's iphone that the text size appears a bit larger. Did I imagine that? Thanks!

@ViberMedia

I tried exiting again yesterday. And it has stayed off since last night. I did notice though I have one new contact. Maybe, it was trying to add the contact and could not finish because of network issues? I don't know.

The support team... if the problem recurs... I will just leave it on running in the background. It is not like it shows up in my battery usage stats when I do. Actually, I do not really know why I turn it off.

Okay. I figured it out. If Viber is off, it goes on when I get an SMS.

What do you mean "it goes on when I get an SMS". Do you mean a Viber text message, or a regular cellular SMS?

About Viber running in the background - this is actually what we recommend our users to do. Viber's battery and data usage when running in the background is negligible, and it improves the user's availability (over shutting the app off completely).

@hiwatt -
Viber's text font size should be the same on all phones, with slight changes that are probably caused by the phone's internal design settings.
About the option to change the text size: we invite you to enter our Feature Request page and post your suggestion there, or join an existing similar suggestion. The more people join on a request, the faster it will become reality :)

Have you tried installing the new version 2.2.1 (and also made sure the other side installed it too?)

If I turn Viber off, it turns on when I get a Viber call or message and receives the call or message. Now, when I receive a SMS, Viber turns itself on too.

Yup, I never see Viber on the list of apps that use the battery so it mist be negligible. Used to turn it off, since last year (in my area) pretty much no one had it. Now I have 50 contacts on Viber. Leaving it on is no biggie.

Just feedback on what might have changed. I have no problem leaving it on.

I Tried this version 2.2.1 last day and i have the same problem .
sorry about Disturbance but i didn't found any solution for this problem :(
i don't know what i can do .

Okay. Will do.

I tested it also on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running 4.04 with the latest 2.2.1.21. Viber wakes when a SMS is received if off. I reported the issue with the stock phone as the reference.

Thanks again.

I found out how to use Viber when, I want to use it and disable it when I have no need of it.
May be it would be useful for someone.

So take a rooted phone (I have a rooted xperia ray).
Install "BusyBox Free" and "Autorun Manager", run autorun manager in advanced mode, find Viber and disable KeepAliveReceiver, IncomingSmsRevceiver, C2DMreceiver and AutoLauncer.
Now when I exit from Viber, it would not start by himself and when I start it manually it works properly.

I beleive it is very easy for developers to make "autostart toggle" as an option.

Does Viber ever get its accounts crossed? I was checking messaging yesterday, and there was about 6-10 chats that I thought were spam when I opened messaging, but they were an actual discussion from 2 other people about selling a car. Phone number on the top started with a + sign, but the amounts were in dollars. No short codes, and no offer to sell anything or involve a third party. The conversations disappeared almost immediately from phone. I'm a speed reader, so I managed to read at least 4-5 of them. Handcent doesn't show the +sign in front of a number since the only number I have listed with a + is my daughter's. The phone number was not hers or she would have shown as the contact. I only use her number with Viber.

I had just turned on Wifi. Network data was OFF. That's when the conversations showed up. Had the texts been from anyone in my contacts, they would have been over voice, and not data. And would be received whether or not I had any data enabled.

Can cell signals get crossed?

Well,
We (Viber) haven't encountered a similar problem from other users until now. There is always a possibility (that's not too far-fetched) that someone texted the wrong number, just like people do sometimes on the cellular network.

However, if this issue persists, please do let us know (and try to record it somehow, using a screenshot for example). Thank you in advance :)

Viber does not officially support Tablets, but it should still work with most of them.
If you have a WiFi only Tablet, then the call simply cannot be routed through your cell provider (because you don't have a SIM card). So you shouldn't worry :)

Download it and try it out.

How do you set up fiber on a wifi only tablet?
Setup asks for a cell phone
I've read that you can use a home landline ?

Can someone help me with setup procedure on wifi onle tablet?

Insructions for activating Viber on iPod/iPad/Tablet:

1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod/Tablet.
2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone's number (or any other number of yours that can receive the code, for example a landline (fixed) number, a prepaid number, etc.), then confirm.
3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod/Tablet. Viber will then be activated, and you're good to go.

* this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod/Tablet.

Feature request :)

ICS Holo look UI. Great app, but the UI is looking dated. Functionality is fine. It is just the look.

Hi,

Please note that at this stage, one Viber number can be assigned with only one device simultaneously. When you try registering to Viber with the same number on a second device, the first device immediately deactivates, and its data (message history, Recents, etc.) is deleted.

What you can do, however, is register your second device with a different number: your home number, an old cellphone number, family's or friends.
In the future, we are considering to add an option to register Viber on multiple devices. Once we have news on that, we'll let you know :)

Since I updated Viber to version 2.2.3 it seems to be using more battery power. It registers as consuming between 12-20% of my battery (based on Androids stock battery use history) even if I am not using it. Viber never use to register at all.

TIA.
