Viber is here for Android (update at post 65)!!!

Hi all,
I'm excited to announce the Viber 2.1.3 is finally available for download on Market.
First and foremost, this new version is compatible with ICS (Android 4) - so the long anticipation is finally over :)

In addition, the new version contains bug fixes and small new features for your convenience.

Please try it out and let us know if you encounter any special problems.

Best regards,
the Viber Team

Update killed Viber on my HTC Desire HD (Un-rooted, Stock 2.3.5 ROM). Force closes on launch. But I found a fix.

Go to Settings ---> Applications ---> Viber ---> Than press Clear Data.

Everything works fine after that.

Stay tuned - hopefully a new, quick-version will be released within the next several hours to fix some issues like the one you've just experienced :)

No worries. Started with Windows 95. As far as troubleshooting problems is concerned this no biggie. But, best hurry, I have seen a couple of people giving quick one star ratings.

Hi im just new to smartphones and i have a "samsung galaxy s2" im on a contract "300 texts
Your minutes and texts are from the UK to UK mobile networks and numbers beginning 01, 02 and 03" so is there any point in me trying viber:D

I just installed the latest update and it seems to be working faster even with huge conversation histories. BUT my messages are now completely mixed up and new messages will appear somewhere inside the list so there is no way to even know what someone wrote unless I search through thousands of messages.
Looking at the market reviews I'm not the only one with this problem. Is this something that will be addressed very soon or is there a way to fix it without deleting all messages?

@Qoo -
The message mix-up issue is known to us, and we're working to fix it this very moment.
We hope to release a fixed version soon - we apologize for the temporary inconvenience :(

@rjr1049 -
Uninstall + reinstall should solve this issue, however it will cause chat history to be deleted. The issue is caused by a collision between Viber's "old" database, and the new database of version 2.1.3 and above.

With the latest 2.1.4 version, it still will not show the photos of Facebook contacts.

Any idea as to when you hope to fix this ?

We hope to attend to it soon - we are still prioritizing our resources and time for resolving issues found on our new ICS update.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience :(

Just a quick development suggestion. When Viber is connected, we get a purple Phone icon which is fine but when it's not, the icon is grey. If you have a Dim screen, it can be difficult to distinguish as to whether it's connected or not.

What about it being Red or Grey with a red line diagonally across it ?

Ok, this is really annoying.

Viber always starts running when I reboot my device.

Is there any way to stop that?

There's no way to stop it from within Viber, because they refuse to let us choose for ourselves whether we want it to autostart or not. They seem to think their app is so great that it doesn't need an off switch.

You can use apps like Autorun Manager to stop Viber from starting when you boot your phone.

I tame Viber with the autostart manager from ROM Toolbox.

You don't need to be that rude mate, as it seems, the Viber dev. is always hearing our suggestions.

But thanks for giving out this app, but I refuse using an app for this purpose. Any app should have an auto-start option.

All,
The reason we haven't implemented our auto-start setting yet is that, as you can understand, not all users are "tech" users like yourselves, and may accidentally turn off the auto-start.

After this happens, we get those users complaining to us, not understanding how to turn Viber back on and why it's not available for calls/texts.

Having said that, it's important to note that we do care and certainly want to hear users' feedback, and I'll pass on your request to our dev. management here in the company.

Viber does have an exit button... which removes Viber as a cached process. I still can get messages sent to me. Viber goes on by itself when a message is sent to me.

Yep, and that's using Android's C2DM service (similar to Push Notifications on iPhone) which allows a completely closed application "awaken" upon events.

This way, Viber does not consume battery when closed, yet remains available for calls and texts.
