Help video format/size/resolution?

was so used to converting dvd's or video files and putting them onto my iphone/ipod.

they always looked great, and this i think was due to the fact that i was using a program which had the iphone and ipod as preset settings. i.e i was able to select them from a dropdown list.

with the hudl being new, i have downloaded around 10 different programs, and none have the settings for the hudl.

im really struggling.

what i would ideally like to do is put my sons dvd movies onto his new hudl.

so far, whenever i try they are pixelated and dont look that great. they always looked amazing on ipod/iphone.

im lost when it comes to all this resolution, bitrate, codecs.

could anyone recommend some settings for me, and also what matters and what doesnt.

like how do i know what resolution to choose, its all so confusing!

The Hudl has a screen resolution of 1440x900 so anything up to that should be ok.

What are you using to convert? Handbrake is a pretty popular choice and I think it does most of the work for you.

Handbrake hasn't let me down yet. Really great program with loads of functionality.

can you not just use something like vlc media player? which should play most if not all video formats without converting

well thats how it is on a pc
