Help Video playback keeps pausing and camera dead

Lurker
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and need some help. I've had my Desire HD since June and it's been great (a phenomenal upgrade from BlackBerry Storm).

It has rebooted a couple of times randomly, and occasionally some photos will dissappear, then reappear later, but until yesterday everything else worked great.

I have about a dozen movies on my phone, most since June, and suddenly yesterday I can't play anything for more than about 20 seconds then it just pauses! This happens in both Act 1 and the htc Video app, and with all videos including films I converted & transferred onto the phone, music videos downloaded from iTunes AND videos recorded on the phone!

Now I've discovered that my camera does not work either! It turns on but before I have a chance to snap a photo the screen goes black, then fades back in, then black, and back and forth fading in and out continously... Same with the camcorder, I can get it to start recording, but then it will go black and stop recording.

The first thing I tried was to uninstall Act 1, reboot and reinstall, but that didn't help. I tried searching the form but couldn't find anything similar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like a hardware failure. You could try a factory data reset and if it still does the same thing then it is def a hardware failure.

Have you tried pulling the battery out?

Yes, I pulled out the battery three times today, no change. How do I factory reset, and how do I back up my contacts?
Is there an easy way to back up my contacts to my gmail or google+ account?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! :)

Backup your contacts - Click

Factory reset is Settings -> SD & Phone Storage -> Factory Reset.

I backed it all up and did a factory reset last night, and everything seems to be back to normal now. Thanks for your help!
