Hey Guys,
Got the Xoom on Sunday....its great. Sure, there a few bugs in it.....but overall im really enjoying it.

Ok....what are you guys using to watch videos? I also have the HTC evo 4g and the stock video player is great. Plays almost all file types. Have some video clips that are in WMV format and my EVO plays them with no issues at all. Cant seem to find an app that plays them on the XOOM. Stock player wont play them.
What video player is everyone using?

Thanks

I've had great luck with Rock Player on both my Droid Incredible and Nook Color. Haven't had a chance to test it on the Zoom, yet. But, I hope to soon.

is there a way in rockplayer to just play what you want with out having to browse to the folder on the sd card to play them every time?

depending on how your files were encoded, enabling or disabling hardware acceleration in the app may provide some good results.

Anyone know of any way to disable the red "R" in the top left corner of Rock Player?

I'm used to the original release, Demo Player, that does not work on the Xoom. At this point, I'd be will to pay for paid version. The "R" doesn't distract me, but I don't like such a strong static image to be displayed on my Plasma TV.

Was happy with rockplayer until I tried moboplayer.

What I like about mobo:

Ability to change volume and brightness level by swiping onscreen,
also having an option to play movies in portrait view.

Wow. Great recommendation. That will probably be my new player of choice. Just tolled around with it. Love all the sliding options. Finding a specific spot in a movie/clip is much easier. Also, I see the brightness slider being very useful in certain lighting conditions.

Thanks a ton.

YES !!!! On Moboplayer. Just downloaded it and it plays all of my WMV and mp4 vids. Soooo happy someone mentioned it. I think having this saved me from returning it.

Also...to save youtube vids on the xoom.....I use Jetvd.
Any other apps you guys use for saving vids from youtube?

So - moboplayer wil play WMV files on the Xoom? That would be awesome. I have a wmv file that for some reason will not convert using DVD Catatlyst (which I thought it would do). I'll give this a try.

Your wmv file, is it a protected one, such as a Digital Copy from a Bluray or DVD? Those will not work (in either dvdcat or an android video player app). If it is an unprotected one, dvdcat should be able to handle it, but if it is using vc1 as a video format (HD WMV file) you might have to update to the beta, which works better with newer video and audio formats.

I suspect it is protected. I bought the movie Speed Racer on Blue Ray and was given the option to down load a free copy of it - which I did. Its a WMV file which simply just plays on my pc. I was hoping to see how it plays on the Xoom. The movie has a lot of fast scenes and very bright colors - which I hoped would put the Xoom to the test. Besides - I really like the movie. :-)

Whats involved in updating to the beta? Does it live side by side with the Purchased copy of dvdcat or does it over write it?

It is. Unfortunately those files are mostly useless for Android in general. There are a few devices (Droid X) that can play some of them, but it's a hit and miss.

For information on the beta, have a look in the latest news section on the website. It replaces the official release you have, but it comes with a downgrade-installer in case you want to switch back. Your Digital Copy WMV file will not work with the beta though.

OK - thanks for the info. I'll back on the beta for a while until I have a strong need that it will work for. I do have some blue rays that may work there but I'll get my feet wet on the paid release for a while getting the hang of it.
