Video text messages

Not sure. Are you using the stock message app?? Mine seem to play better on the stock app rather than using something like Chomp.

I use the stock HTC messaging app and I am able to receive video messages just fine. Perhaps the person who is sending the video message is not using a .3GP (H.263) format?

With video messages one really needs to use the lower compression of the format I mentioned in the previous paragraph because it uses much less bandwidth to send to and from a mobile device. The higher quality standard that is H.264 (MP4) would be extremely large to send casual videos over the mobile network. It would probably be limited to an extremely short duration of a few seconds. Even with .3GP (H.263) you will probably max out at a video clip that is forty-five seconds.

I'm not sure of format but most are sent from a Nextel phone. I have had this problem with all sprint phones that I have had. Just upsets me that a smart phone like this won't play them but a junk Nextel phone will.

I was wondering about this too, I got a... I dunno, one of those stupid forwarded things that has like a gif with sound or whatever, It was the first time I've gotten one since i got my Hero. Mainly because all of my friends know that they will get chewed out for sending them to me. And it wouldn't work... So..........?

As far as I know, animated .gif files do not animate on any Android based handset. I cannot remember if they have added support for that in Android 2.2, but I think they did.

So, the animated .gif is not an issue only related to the Sprint HTC Hero. I just thought I would clarify that.
