Are you using the stock Message app? Usually the stock app MMS size limit is very small, around 1M or so per message. AT&T's version of Message lets you change the MMS creation mode to Free. I think Verizon locks that option. You could download Go SMS Pro and it will let you set limit to 5Mb per MMS.

Let me check to see if Verizon did indeed lock it.. can you tell me how to change to free?

Under Settings -> Creation mode, it has 3 options, Restricted, Warning, Free.
