Help Viewing picture attachment

Newbie
When I get an MMS or email or text that is attached with a picture I can only open it up in "slide show" format. Is there a way to get around this?

usually you have the ability to open in gallery, astro (if you have it) and as slideshow. at one point did you check "open in this always" and hit slide show? if you did some where in settings >> applications you can change it.
