Help Viewing pictures from phone to Linux

because windows xp is going away, I have installed Linux Mint 15.

I have hooked up my phone to the computer, and have tried to view, download, the pictures from the phone. I can't view them on Linux. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I will be getting a new computer with windows 8 on it, hopefully withing a couple of months.

But for now I am going to stick with Linux

Thank you

Mtp is not easily supported on Linux. You can Google your Linux flavor and mtp and see if you can find a tutorial. I am running crunchbang and failed to get mtp to function. The problem is that mtp is more of a windows thing and the f6 does not support mass storage mode.

EDIT: I stand corrected. It's not easily supported on my Linux version. Apparently Mint supports it just fine. Mint however, does not support my cooling fan just fine lol

And xp isn't going away. It's just at end of life and will no longer be supported. You can still use it. Compatibility may suffer though with newer programs

I realize that windows is not "going away" just the support. But I need to upgrade anyway :)

good a reason as any. lol

I can see both the internal and external, but trying to bring up the pictures from the phone, internal and external, will not work. they are .jpeg right? So what program will bring them up. I have tried Gimp, and I even downloaded Picasa. to no avail.

Do you have a native image viewer installed?

If you don't have one there are quite a few to choose from. I'm using "eog" and "shotwell" on ubuntu 12.04 which may also be available in the mint repos.

To install either one, run one of the following commands in terminal or check the mint software center for one of your choice.
Code:
sudo apt-get install eog
Or
Code:
sudo apt-get install shotwell

AnandTech | Microsoft Announces DirectX 12: Low Level Graphics Programming Comes To DirectX

Gotta clear up resources for work and support on Windows 9, so they are doing away with support, drivers and any updates for XP. Also, another reason I am waiting to get a new graphics card, is DirectX 12 is coming too.

Mint is based on ubuntu so it should be able to open images natively easily. Something's not right lol.

Till you figure it out you can upload the images from your phone to picasa by clicking the share icon in the gallery. From picasa you can download them to your PC if needed. Not ideal, but can help to quickly get the images to your PC till you find a solution.

Ubuntu is more widely used thus more supported. If you go with it, here's a guide I wrote to get android easily mounted on ubuntu to transfer files to and from your phone. Works for any MTP device.

If you stick with mint I'll try to help you. Maybe you just need to setup the udev rules in mint for android.
