Help Viewing pix/vids using USB cable

Hey so I just got the note 2 yesterday and there is no SD card in it so any pictures and video are going right on the phone card I would assume..

I took some pictures and videos today but when I attach USB cord from phone to laptop and open the phone directory in explorer, I cant see any thumbnail previews and I cant choose the option 'open with..'?

All I see is the videos with the winamp logo in the middle and I can only play them in winamp. When I press open, it says copying file to C:/.... and then plays in winamp.. whats going on here?

and why is there no previews of the picture thumbs?

I know with the galaxy s2, you had to physically attach the cord to the phone, drop down notification bar and press connect to phone. With the note 2 it seems like you dont have to, once you plug it in and go to the homescreen it connects automatically?

thanks!

It basically all boils down to Extensions.

First this: I don't see any thumbnails either (in Windows Explorer). I think it's because our phones no longer connect as a removable drives, as was the case in Gingerbread, but rather as a media devices.

A media file should however just open in Windows, with the program that's associated with its extension, eg. a .JPG will (in my case) open with IrfanView (an excellent and free picture viewer for Windows). An MP4 file (that's the extension for video's you shoot with your phone) will in my case open in Windows Media Player. In your case, it seems that you either do not have Windows Media player, or you don't have all the codecs that are available for it, so MP4 opens in WinAmp.

thanks and no I dont only have winamp on my laptop but also wmp and others to choose from but it wont let me choose those only winamp. If i go to other folders on my laptop I can choose what program to open the video including mp4 with. Only from my N2 it only has it as winamp only and no picture thumbnail. getting weird now!

and also when I transfer video files to my computer, it takes a really long time compared to when I transfered on my S2.

something is not right here.. cant see thumbs, can only open with winamp and slow transfer rate.. errr

at closer glance it almost is like there is not directory association with any of the files in DCIM folder. When I delete videos from my phone DCIM folder, when recycling, it just shows the file name and not . 'E:/2303003DFH to recycle bin' like it usually does. It only shows 2303003DFH
just looks funny. Once I transfer the videos to C: drive, I can see thumbs and I can open with any program I want.

and PS.. why are some videos really blurry through the entire video? like it just cant gain focus. Sorry to open another can of worms here but didnt want to start a whole new thread

When a phone is connected as a Media Device, file transfers will be slower compared to a phone that's connected as a USB Mass Storage Device.

If you are rooted, and you want USB mass storage back, there are tools and ROMs out there that support it. Look in the "All Things Root" section.

ok update.. talked to samsung support and Rogers support. The issue with the phone drive is that its not reading my videos and pictures from a SD card so its not seeing it as a directory.

BUT now tonight, I could not get the USB to connect in kies. it looks like the port on the bottom of the note is loose or broken or something. While lifting up the phone, the laptop starts to beep (the default USB plug in sound). I can get a charge from the cable on the phone but wont connect. I am going to have to go get a new one tomorrow.. UGHH!

Ok this is crazy now . So I went and got a sd card and took some pictures and video. When I open windows explorer and look at the pictures, still no preview and videos can only be opened with winamp! Same problem I was haVing with using the phone card to view files. What gives! ? Why is this phone so annoying compared to all the other android devices I have had including an S2 when it comes to media and transferring files?
