Root VillainROM 10

very useful thread :) one more thing, can we get the magnifying glass in the browser just like the legend and desire?
 
Im wondering, how do i go about changing from the HTC keyboard to the standard android one? I much prefer it over the HTC one, seems so much quicker.

I believe people have asked for it over on their forums. I suppose we will have to wait and see! Unless someone else can provide it.
 
I'm probably being a fool but I don't completely understand how the villainrom updater works.

Is there a guide?

Also I can't seem to get skype to work in Villain 10. Is this a known problem.

The OTA updater? Very simple, you just check for updates, select an available update and apply. The phone will then reboot (asking for root access if not already granted) into recovery and apply the update. Once done just click on Reboot.

What are you using for Skype? It's working fine in Nimbuzz.
 
Cor blimey what a ROM this is!! Installed it last night and it runs like a charm, only prob I got so far is that the battery life drains very quick, I took it off charge for work at 3.30am by the time it was noon it had dropped to 62% (And i wasnt constantly using it too). Has anyone used the navigation maps too? I was using it to drive from London to the Midlands about 2 hour drive and about halfway into that the back of the phone was extremely hot the battery check was showing 130 degrees (Cant remember if it was F or C !) apart from that ,top work lads!

Ok I was doing that but wasn't sure it was working

I was using skype for 3 and fring

If you switch on your GPS then reboot the phone Navigation should work ok. If you switch on GPS after the phone was booted up you will get the 'trying to find GPS signal.
I have just tried the above and navigation worked like a dream :)
 
Hi All

Just flashed 10 and like it so far. One question, I am just doing the OTA and chose to do it automatically. It rebooted to recovery and went through the install of the files.

My screen now has the recovery options in green, which i can scroll, however on the lower half of the screen I have

Build: RA-hero-v1.6.2
Finding Update package..
Opening update package..
verifyng update package..
installing update...
copying files...

and thats it......, do I wait ??????????? or reboot now ?

Thanks Xyro !:D All rebooted and runnig fine atm. Will report back in a few days with my impression. First looks though, look superb !
 
hi. from stock , first flash the new villainRom 10,on the hero when it was posted on their site early saturday morning, it's really fast compare to stock. well FB wasn't sync till when i updated it OTA, so far no problems,everything is running smooth, very good features added, like the keyboard (voice), pinch the main screen to get all the other screens under one screen. villainRom updater is brilliant saves you the hassle of going the long way to update ...etc... overall 9/10. still BT problem not solved. maybe it's just the way the hero is designed.:confused:

all the credit goes to the villain team, great work.
hope everyone will enjoy it.:)
 
Anyone got an update server for the Themes? New to villain roms so unsure about this whole OTA updater thing ha ha.
Also im having troubles getting live wallpapers working. I have done the live wallpapers update and downloaded many, but after i choose 'set wallpaper' it goes to my home screen but it stays the way its always been
 
Flashed this last night to have a quick play and seemed ok, but despite running the OTA update for facebook (several times), I still don't have any facebook options. Back to SenseHero for the time being.

Seems a shame, face book does work, this ROM is so much more stable than sense! Did you try manually flashing the th patch?

I couldn't get the update to work either.
I fixed it by opening Astro (file manager). I noticed that the updates were in an update 'folder', so I 'copied' the update from the folder and 'pasted' it directly onto the SD card, rebooted, and voil

For those who are having Battery drain issues, a couple of points...

1. the battery life always seems to be poor after flashing a new ROM. Give it a couple of days to sort itself out.

2. Make sure you have wiped your battery stats in Amon Ra, if you are not sure whether you did, do it now.

3. If you have a nice ISP that provides a good PRL list then change your preferred network type to 'GSM auto (PRL)' by dialling *#*#INFO#*#* then go to Phone Info and change the first drop down, then just back out (no need to save). If you have trouble connecting to mobile data after this then your ISP has a poor PRL list and you'll have to change it back to 'WCDMA preferred' and suffer the extra battery usage.

Personally I'm getting great battery life in this ROM (Best so far and I've used all the MoDaCo's, Villains and SenseROMs).

Checked on the phone and have the file in the update folder as a zip file. Did you just copy this to the root of the SD card?

Yes, sorry didn't make it clear in the last post. Copied it directly onto the sd card, then flashed it, rebooted and it was then in the 'Accounts and Sync' options.
 
ok, just tried both ways, and the manual update appears to have worked. However, despite it now allowing my to configure the synch to my Facebook account, I've no widget or mention of Facebook in Apps so can't actually access it???

The Facebook app and associated widget has to be downloaded from the market.
