Root [Virgin Mobile] All-In-One Custom ROM User Guide

I second Hangouts! The UI is nice and smooth. It works great for messaging. My one and only gripe with it is the lack of separate notification tones for individual contacts. But still it's my first choice for stock replacement!

I've used GoSMS in the past and recommend that as a second option.

I've read that Facebook Messenger now handles SMS but I haven't used it and I'm not sure if it handles MMS.

Hello. Is there a specific KitKat Rom or Kernel that allows us to store camera pictures/videos to the external sd?

I'm constantly running out of memory since upgraded to the C-Rom on my VM S3. If anyone has any details on how to make this work correctly, please let me know. Thanks!

In 4.4.2 AOKP the camera settings allow you to select internal or external (sd card) storage.

Hey there I was wondering what ROM you were running on your Galaxy S 3 for Virgin. Or which one do you recommend? Thank you for your time and thoughts :)

I was manually wiping everything via the latest PhilZ today, when one of the wipes seems to have gotten 'stuck' (I think it was /data?) After 5 or 10 minutes I think I pulled the battery--and then couldn't reboot into recovery. (Everything else had been wiped--so no point in trying to boot into anything BUT recovery.)

I think I'm in what must be a boot loop? (The phone displays either the recovery boot screen or the standard boot screen and goes blank. The phone vibrates from time to time....

I've tried reinstalling the PhilZ via Odin, but that doesn't seem to have changed anything.

What happened, and how do I get out if it?? Hope I haven't bricked the lil' guy...

Anybody still watching this thread?

Question about the tutorial... The first step: Download Philz Touch 6.19.3 .tar. How do I know which version to download? There are dozens. I have a Virgin Mobile GS3. Model # SPH-L710. I can't seem to find a version of Philz Touch that corresponds to my model.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

D2lte or d2spr. Either one. D2 is the s3, LTE is the name of the unified builds(most u.s. s3's, including virgin mobile) but the d2spr (sprint) works just the same. Get the most recent, 6.48.4 d2lte.

Thanks again for the quick response Madbat. Are there any ROMs that you recommend for my VMGS3? Any that you recommend I stay away from? The reason I ask is because most of the information I see about ROMs is 2 years old. Just wondering if anything has changed. I realize this is an old phone, but I just got it, so it's new to me.

A lot of folks (including myself) are quite pleased with the LiquidSmooth "Milestone" (3.2) in combination with the latest BMS Kernel. index

Okay, last question. Hopefully. I downloaded the D2LTE file. It's not a .tar file like the tutorial says. The file I downloaded is .md5. Is this the same thing or do I need to do something to the .md5 to get a .tar?

Also, instead of downloading the latest SuperSU update .zip file to my PC and transferring it to my phone, can I just download it directly to my phone from the app store?

Yes from the app store or get an even newer version from the Chainfire site.

I tried flashing the MK5 modem and now I have no service at all. I also didn't make a nandroid back up. How do I fix this? Someone please help! Is there a link to the stock modem that came with the VM S3?

My USB port has broken any other way I can fix this? If somehow I can magically get the USB port to work again can you send me some links to this file. Thank you so much!

here you will find the stock tar for Odin, the stock ROM in flashable zip (NDC), and the NDC modem.

@Madbat I have been reading this thread for the last few hours bc I'd like to root my VM SPH-L710. This will be my first time rooting a phone and am taking notes as I go along. First, is there a 'noob' dictionary for all of these new terms I'm learning? (RAM, Flashing, recoveries (touch based), etc. Hahaha! Learning a new language here.
Thanks for sticking around and posting knowledgeable replies. Looks like @struckn hasn't been around for a bit so, thank you. After reading his in-depth tutorial I now feel more confident in the process. I will continue reading and post questions if needed. Any video or 'very' beginners links would be appreciated. Thanks again.
