Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710

You can flash an older rom as long as it does NOT contain a bootloader. Trying to flash an older bootloader while on a knox bootloader will result in a hard brick.

Now an older rom may or may not play well with the newer baseband so you could possibly get a soft brick if it doesn't, but it's at least fixable.

I flashed the stock nd8 via odin but I have no data. Do I need to install the rooted version ? Or do do I need a apn fix and if so can I use the same one posted on 4.4.2 nightly thread.

So this is like 4.3 mk5, the roms I flashed with 4.3 mk5 bootloader(knox bootloader) will work, because I have flashed them on knox, and those roms never flashed a bootloader.

but what you are saying is crazy!!, its like saying that flashing a modem(baseband) will softbrick your device, in no case have I heard that happening, I know the apn fix from moped works, I have 4g on the 4.4 touchwiz rom, so the new radio should work with other roms( ill confirm when I flash cm11 snapshot m3) but I was just saying that seemed very wrong.

**edit** I meant that I flashed those roms that I had saved on my computer, while I had the 4.3 knox firmware(aka bootloader), so all of those will work, as they don't include and flash a bootloader, so all these roms will work

Virgin Mobile is probably busy loading theirs up with useless bloatware as we speak.

yeah like their virgin essentials and other vm app crap that nobody uses, well all except for maybe the radio they have, and I haven't used that for a good 4 months, I don't know why Samsung doesn't make aosp phones more often.

My data wouldn't work without the APN fix. Flashed the tar and let it sit a bit, but data never came up. As soon as I flashed the fix data worked immediately

Yep it's rootable. I'm running the Sprint update on my VM S3. I couldn't get it to work with the cfautoroot most others were using but flashing the supersu flashable zip worked.

I merged multiple threads about the 4.4.2 update for Virgin Mobile into this thread.

Just a reminder, it's best to search the forum for a current thread that may already exist discussing your topic :) This makes the forum easy to read and navigate.

Thanks! Hope this helps!

What I did was download the stock untouched nd8 tar and flashed that though Odin. Then flashed Philz recovery via Odin as well. Afterwards, apn fix and supersu via Philz.Everything is working fine.
