Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710

Okay so let me know if im right. We can just flash the tar file from kies directly into our phones through odin? Or does it need to be modified by the devs before it can be flashed? I want to flash asap :P

ive been running the sprint update since it came out and everything works fine. there's a lot of support on the inter-webs (roms, themes, kernel, etc.) why wait? everyone wants a VM build, WHY?

Good question. Personally, I just wanted the NDC modem as I had heard rumors that it might be more stable than the ND8 one. It's about the same, fyi.

Should be fine to flash through Odin.

Thanks Agent 4834, beat me to it!

my upload is now at 52%, don't really need to continue at this point, but I'll keep it going so there's a mirror and post when it's done like I said.

for those who get this thru kies, on my phone it flashed it despite my being rooted and on custom recovery, contrary to what we've been told that you need to have stock recovery... and all my files apps and settings were kept, which was also a surprise... but ymmv.

Well that killed my Dropbox Public Folder, lol. Any other Way I should make a public Link?

I have space in Google Drive, Do you think that will be okay?

Yeah, I don't know what all the misinformation about flashing through Kies not working when rooted is about. It may have been something I said. If that's what caused the confusion, let me clarify: if you're rooted or have modified your system, you won't be able to flash the OTA update zip. Kies works like Odin and flashes through bootloader/download mode. It basically writes a raw system dump to the system partition.

No I turned it back on.. I can't flash it through stock recovery?

sorry, i missed this to start off with. Pull the battery from your phone, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on while simultaneously holding volume down+home to put your phone in bootloader mode. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm, then flash the tar via odin. Easiest way to do it.

I don't have a CPU. I used my friends buy he's gone now

My question is: can I just boot into system recovery (stock) and flash the tar? Or do I need odin?

Edit: I don't have Odin :( ..

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend Odin since you're on stock recovery. Odin or Kies. -snip-

And for anyone who has the tar, keep uploading it. The more copies available the betterx and dropbox crashes so much, I recommend afh(Android file host).

if i want to flash this to my wives' phones, what settings should i change in odin, and i'm loading the tar in the pda slot like usual?

I'm about to flash the tar, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
EDIT: Currently flashing... It should take about 10 mins
EDIT 2: It flashed without a problem, I will be posting screenshots of my "about" screen in a minute

The update is running great! Flashing through odin didn't even erase any of my apps

EDIT 3: Rooting went very smooth also! Just follow the same instructions as if you were rooting mk5 Link

EDIT 4: The knox remover zip also works flawlessly! I now have a rooted, knox free, official 4.4.2 NDC Galaxy S3 :D

I don't have to be rooted do I? And do I check anything of the few check boxes there are?
