The dhd.ko file is also on Galaxy S5's. I believe it came with KitKat. No clue what it is though. It was mentioned in the at&t s5 forums on xda.

It's a kernel module. Basically the same thing as a device driver on Windows. Turns out the stock MK5 tar that we had was either not for Boost/Virgin (Kies shows sales code as XAS vs VMU for Virgin or BST for Boost) or at the very least contained some files that weren't the same as "factory" stock. Anyway, it's a moot point.

In case anybody wants it, here is my flashable zip for NDC. Works with both ND8 and NDC bootloaders. This flashes the system to stock knoxed odexed NDC as well as flashing the NDC kernel. I'll probably throw this into it's own thread tomorrow (unless someone else wants to do it for me ;)). Basically a quicker way to get back to stock if you're using a custom recovery. Doesn't touch the bootloader,modem, recovery, TZ, or RPM partitions. I have a flashable zip for the modem, too. The NDC ROM zip should work with ND8 or NDC bootloaders with no problem. The NDC modem will not work with the stock ND8 kernel (breaks Wi-Fi) but seems to work fine if you're using a custom kernel.
 
For those folks on Boost or VM who flashed the Sprint ND8 Kit Kat tar, I have good news. I just risked sleeping on the couch to see if the NDC tar would flash over the ND8 bootloader, and not only did it flash, but it saved all of the data, just like an OTA upgrade does. She snagged it back before I was able to re-root and such, but just know, it DOES flash over it just fine, just takes awhile. Good luck!

Yeah I odin'd over ND8 to NDC and was shocked to see wifi still connected and everything else still in place. Apparently most gs3 otas dont include a data.img, so it doesnt get wiped or overwritten

Yeah it's a firmware update, bootloader, kernel, modem, etc...keeps everything else the same.
 
For those of you that are seeing "Samsung" in the pull down menu as well as the network type displaying "Samsung" there is a fix in the PlayStore, its called "Refresh Customization" by Samsung MNO Labs. This will factory reset your phone after you download select the first option called "Refresh Customization Opt1," if it is unsuccessful try "Opt2." This fixed my phone after the KitKat upgrade and if your like me and use Sensorly to map Sprint's network it will not correctly map the info because Sensorly thinks you on a network called "Samsung."

This app was designed for Samsung Galaxy devices ONLY running on Sprint's networks. If a Samsung device's initial customization settings has been lost due to the system upgrade to the KitKat platform then this is your fix. This also repairs the "My Account" app that displays "MobileZone."

Also my device is completely stock on 4.4 so for those of you that are rooted I have no idea if this will work.

The only things you should care about with Knox:
1) If the bit is tripped, and your employer uses a BYOD phone plan and they use Knox to secure it, then you will not be able to use that phone.

2) Once you have a boot loader with Knox in it, you cannot downgrade to a boot loader that doesn't have Knox, (whether you tripped the bit or not, doesn't matter)

3) Lets your service provider know you have voided your warranty.

So if you do not plan on using your phone in an "official" capacity with your employer, there really is not any reason to worry about it.
 
Ok, so before I do this. One quick question about personal data retention.

So coming from Carbon w/MK5 ROM, if I go ahead and decide I want to jump to NDC, should I be worried about losing personal data on either the internal or external SD storage? I'm fine with starting over with a new build and having to reinstall software. But if I don't need to take the extra step of backing up that data to my PC, I'd rather choose the lazy path and not.

jdsingle76: I'm willing to try out your deodexed once I get clarification and decide to pull the trigger.

I can't make any guarantees for you, but I personally didn't lose anything at all when I flashed this, other than having to redo a few minor settings like ringtone and such.
 
Okay, it's all settled down and rooted. But I can't seem to get any data signal. I know there's no LTE coverage in my area, but the whole point of me flashing to the new NDC was in hopes that my 3G would be improved, now it's not even connecting.

Ideas?

Try running reactivation, which is ##72786#, and let it run all the way through. That may help. Also run prl and profile update.

I did this update on three phones yesterday and all three I had to update PRL and profile to get 4GLTE back after rebooting... on one I had to further dial 611 after getting "no mobile networks available," and then 4GLTE came back up on that one.

As for the de-VirginMobile-ization effect, not interested in a solution that factory resets my phone, so that app on the play store is a no-go in my house... anyone care to find a different solution to the "Samsung" carrier and "MobileZone" instead of "My Account" thing (one that doesn't involve a factory reset), it would be much appreciated ;) Sounds like someone at Samsung's or Virgin Mobile's QC department didn't do their job...
 
Anyone noticed their Wifi being enabled randomly even though they've turned it off multiple times?

Question about installing AOSP based roms, now that NDC is on here and PRL's have been updated, going back to another 4.4.2 d2lte ROM shouldn't be an issue as I'll still have the NDC baseband and PRL's, correct?
