Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4 KitKat ROM?

Hey Guys! On Halloween, Google announced KitKat that has a ton of not only visual improvements, lots of work done under the hood. KitKat is advertised to be bring more to older devices. Supposedly, even devices with only 512MB of RAM and essentially, mainly only single core phones are given 512MB of RAM or they have really old Dual-Core processors. This means that we should be able to get KitKat working on this Mid-Range device no problem performance wise. I'm insanely busy with school right now and am still learning Java but I'm sure someone else out there is probably more knowledgeable and has more time than I.

Cool. Didn't realize you had the new build up. Moon, you are a beast with these updates. :D Man do you ever sleep?

I can already speak for trying to compile Android 4.3 OmniROM for this using a CM10.2 kernel that was partially functional. Its not likely without updated kernel source from Samsung unless you're good at writing drivers and C++, and really good at that.

Hell, I'm having issues getting 4.4 built for my NEXUS device on OmniROM due to lack of driver support (no Audience/Broadcom driver has been released yet).

Hang on...unrelated, but are you the legit MTU??

my experience was basically that everything worked fairly well, save for Google search crashing when trying to use voice commands. got a "could not initialize microphone" error. something to that effect.
also wanted to share, you can add new launcher panes by opening up your app drawer, selecting a shortcut and drag it to the very edge of the pane that it's showing. it will automagically create a new pane to the right. this trick doesn't work for the left, but you can rearrange your panels when you are finished. drove me nuts trying to figure that crap out.

cheers.

The way around this issue is to long press the home screen to get to the Settings menu. Select the Voice settings and change the language default to something else. Go back Home and do any Google Search. Repeat the previous steps but now select English

I have a sprint victory & it worked once... Then it says something like "google search placeholder not found " and wont start again after switching back... I use holo launcher hd normally...

I have not looked at any of the Kit-Kat stuff so could be talking out my ars but based on what they had been doing with 4.3 it looked like things had become allot more Kernel based so we would need to find a new Kernel Guru as it looks like we are now without xInterlopeRx. With that said a lil birdy mentioned a possible Jerry return that I probably just jinxed by saying anything. That or an update to 4.2 or 4.3 for either Sprint or VM from Samsung, lol making it an unrealistic bit more of an achievable goal. I guess never say never though cause if its true and we can get a kernel either from Samsung or a hacked version of the D2 kernel for kit-kat like xInterlopeRx had been working on for 10.2 would not need to rely so much on our current proprietary files. still for any of that we would still need that kernel guru but again probably talking out my ars, not sure.

That was my conclusion after working on and fixing 4.4 on the Nexus 10- most of the work will be kernel-level, which I will be working on learning next
