I have been frustrated with the fact that I could not get the increased storage on my Internal SD as others. I would get at best about 435Mb of free space out of the 1.81 Gb. I did a little looking at the storage structure and found that Titanium Backup was using the Internal SD to store my backups. So, after a bit more research I found that you can use the External SD card for this. I changed the preferences for TB to use the Ext SD to store backups and made a fresh backup, then deleted the TB backups stored on my Internal SD. This brought my free internal storage in line with what others are getting (1.44Gb free currently).
This is with relatively large amount of apps installed (only 1.04Gb free on my 2nd partition for Link2SD to use). So I would suggest that if possible, I would not use a second partition for Link2SD smaller than 2Gb, especially if you install a lot of games.
Thought I would share in case someone else ran into the same issue.
