Root [Virgin Mobile] Auto brightness issue?

Not sure if this is any way root related, but does anyone else experience their screen brightness going pretty high in dark areas and refusing to go back to dim? I've had to reboot in order to fix it but it comes back every now and then. Anyone else have any feedback on this at all?

I haven't had issues with auto brightness. My screen has been pretty responsive to light.

You said it gets brighter in dark areas? Your brightness should get brighter when you are in bright areas such as sunlight and dim when you are in darker areas. If your brightness is in fact getting brighter in dark areas then your auto brightness is misperforming.

I guess I worded it wrong. It doesn't get brighter in the dark, it just stays bright and doesn't dim down all the time in really dark places to the dimmer setting. It just doesn't seem fully consistent, either that or I'm just not used to it yet.

Oh, okay! I was just understanding that wrong. I haven't seen the brightness levels stick on me yet :-/ It could be a glitch with the phone and I just haven't noticed it yet.

I had an issue with autobrightness when using a screen protector on another phone of mine. Removed the screen protector and it worked as I wanted. It was a privacy screen protector altering the ambient light sensor.

I've had the same issue, only to find out auto brightness had turned off somehow. A quick turn on, and screen off and on, and it worked fine.

Thats the only workaround I know.

That is pretty close to what I experience rarely, only I've never noticed that the box was unchecked myself, the system still reported that it's on in my case. It's just as if it weren't on though because it wouldn't dim back down in those cases. The one and only real issue so too speak I've had with the phone. Still better than the other handsets I've had from Virgin in my opinion.

I can confirm that checking auto brightness and turning screen on then off doesn't fix it for me. It's like it gets stuck and stays bright and a reboot is the only known cure I have so far.

It could be kernel related. I already requested the Virgin Mobile source code as Sprint is the only source they have.

I haven't seen this problem. I am using the kernel i posted.

Excuse my ignorance as i am trying to learn this stuff. What do you mean 'I already requested Virgin Mobile source code'? Is that not the same as the source from Samsung? That is what i used for the kernel i compiled.

I noticed that with Auto Brightness "on" it actually keeps the screen too Dim.

Overall, I like this phone - coming from Triumph. I just miss the CyanogenMod features - hopefully coming soon.
