Root [Virgin Mobile] Battery Life/Kernel Tweaks Discussion Thread

New dkp kernel out today. Also, looks like Majestic Kernel gave the same issues to several users in the XDA thread that our testers ran into here earlier today. Dev has acknowledged and says version 1.06, which is dropping any minute now, should be better.

Edit/Update: Majestic v. 1.06 is now available, downloading now and will see what happens.

Edit part two: Majestic v. 1.06 looks like a no-go, Status 7 error at the tail end of the flash. Tried fiddling with a couple of things, in the zip file, still no dice. Flashed v. 1.04 just for grins and tons of force closes, along with no data and no WiFi. Will have to say that this kernel is very much a work in progress!

Edit part three: new dkp kernel fails to flash, Status 2 error with failure in ramdisk message. After opening up the zip file (Status 2 refers to something not right in the META-INF folder), there is no updater-script to go with the update binary. Not a good night for kernels after all!

Jeez, I guess I should have checked all the kernel sources before posting-new Quantum kernel just dropped as well, I am the second person to download! Looks like instead of ROM testing I'll be kernel testing for the next couple of days.

When my girlfriend stops nagging me about being out of contact when I'm playing with my ROM&Kernel I'll be able to test and give feedback along with the rest.

Flashed dkp latest with no issues @struckn

Good to know, tried multiple downloads myself and same issue every time. Posted on the XDA thread, we'll see if it happens to anyone else or if decimalman has an answer. No big deal, loving Quantum kernel anyway at the moment. As far as Majestic, for those interested, it is using an older update binary, so after disabling the Philz setting about not allowing old update binaries, it flashed, but then I got nothing but bootloops, couldn't even get into system. Still think it looks promising, and looks like the dev is interested in making this workable for everyone.

When I tried flashing the Quantum kernel I kept getting the same status error 7 as you were trying to flash dkp...

Thanks for testing guys. The asserts are the same as for Quantum, so something else must be going on with this kernel. Plus, it is very new, so maybe a couple of more builds will see it become usable.

Just flashed the latest 1.0.6 on Omni and it worked! Had to allow old binaries on Philz but it works on Omni, I also tried it on LS but it didn't work on it. Strange...

Yeah, it's starting to look like certain ROM/kernel combos are working great and others not so much.

I've been talking to him and he is trying to get things figured out and is contacting pwncakes, Quantum Kernel, to try and help. He flashed SlimROM and says it works on that as well. We'll have to see, .

Edit:

What he told me exactly:

Yup. Certainly looks that way for some people. I've been lucky and haven't had any issues with DKP or Quantum. Getting ready to try the new kernels now. Thanks for sharing your find bro.

I know it's hard for some people to comprehend but just because we each have an S3, that doesn't necessarily mean what works on my phone will work on another's. I've seen people run the same ROM and try the same kernel. It would work perfectly on one while bootloop on the other. I started noticing this with my 1st Android, the Prevail. Some of these phones have minds of their own it seems. LOL,

Majestic is still a no go bro. I unchecked the updated old binaries and actually got the kernel to flash. It went through the whole process but when it came time for the ROM to boot up I got systmeui FC. It did it repeatedly until it rebooted. I tried it twice with no justice.

Also, just in case anyone is wondering, I tried it with the AICP ROM.

Damnit! Negative on the dkp kernel too. I thought i had it but it was a no go. Sheeeet!

Tried both with the AICP ROM. Well, at least I've got the Quantum kernel and that is saying a lot. It's an amazing kernel and it's going to take one heck of a build to top it!! ! I also have the older build of dkp which is a darn good build too. No worries.... I'm very happy with what I've got to work with. That's for sure. No tears being shed here. :)

For those of you who haven't tried the AICP ROM, I suggest giving it a go. It's based on AOKP and has the AOKP settings built in. It has more options that most of the AOSP ROMs out there too.

OK.... time to give the newest Beanstalk build a try.

Edit: Beanstalk is running great. :D

I'm currently running LiquidSmooth with the Quantum kernel. I'm using intelliactive for the CPU governor and zen for the IO scheduler. My battery pretty much stops draining when I'm not using the phone, for the most part, but under heavy use it still seems to drain pretty quick.

What kernel & ROM are y'all running and @ which frequency governor and io ?? :-*

I'm on PAC ROM nightlies, dkp kernel, undervolted -50 MV from defaults, free lunch governor, deadline i/o. I'm on the 3/21 d2lte build, since I haven't had any real problems, or time to flash new nightlies. This setup has been great this past week.

What build of dkp kernel are y'all running? because the most recent one keeps giving me faulty results. I'm running on the 3/20 build now of dpk

Woaw my battery life just dropped 40% from %100 in 10 minutes :confused: any one else have had a similar experience? This is the first time its happen to me. I let my battery charging last night as I slept. Did I over charge it? Is it the kernel? (I'm on dpk inteldimand sio) and this is not the stock battery. I have the ANKER brand 7200
