Virgin mobile data?

Does virgin mobile still make your data slower if you go over 2.5 GB.

As of right now Virgin doesn't throttle 4G but does state that after 2.5 GB of 3G data you'll be throttled. The party might be over though, until recently because our 4G is coming from Sprint they had no easy way to monitor it, however in the last week they stated on their Facebook page that 4G Broadband 2 Go plans starting in December will be capped at 10 GB of 4G data and then throttled after 2.5 GB of 3G so I'm sure that we're not far behind. Again 4G is not throttled but capped, after that you start using your 3G which will be throttled to between 128-256 kb. Still no definitive word on what our 4G cap will be on Beyond Talk plans. Even sadder is that many people can't achieve much more than 128 kb when they're not being throttled on 3G.

Wow really, why advertise unlimited data if their is a limit! "Here have unlimited 4g with slower then 3g speeds." I'm pretty sure I go over the limit every month. I haven't noticed a throttle though, I'll see what happens next month.

that is a play on words. data is unlimited but will be slowed down so you will not want it

Everyone but Sprint does this... It's not unique to virgin.

My 4G speed is definitely not slow, plus on 3G in the same locations my 3G speeds are at least double what I ever received on the Triumph plus I used to get the overage text every month, with that phone it didn't really seem to matter if my speeds were throttled or not. They always sucked . And our data is unlimited, the only carrier with unlimited, unthrottled data is Sprints.

You know that brings up a great thought... if someone streams all month long using 3G- on Virgin's towers, then after the 2.5g limit Virgin then throttles them back, could this cause an account to stop the persons use of data entirely??

No I don't think so, knowing my experience with customer support it is a possibility.

No, we have unlimited data, after hitting the soft cap you're throttled to 256 kb/s speed until you're plan resets.

Lol 256 KB/s would be an upgrade for me. I'm going to reach my cap and see if my phone speeds up

Like every carrier and real estate, it's all location, location, location. Where I live, I consistently get 1+ MB/s 3G and 5-6 on WiMAX, this is indoors, I'm fortunate living on the I-95 corridor so all the carriers have good coverage here.

Lucky I get .30 mbps 3g but 4g 4-8 mbps

I noticed last month for some reason I hit my cap and I was on WiFi most of the time and they stopped my data service for some reason.

Edit: for some reason the app attached the wrong quote. Sorry
