Virgin Mobile Dumping Triumph

I read on the VM site that the Motorola Triumph is set to be discontinued. That would mean the already poor support for the phone will get worse. I can understand people "jumping ship" over to the new HTC EVO, but looking at the issues I've read about with 3G, is 4G going to be better? My 3G is just plain weird. At home (Orlando area), 1 bar using Speed Test 900K down - 400K up. At work (near Disney property) where Sprint has a high concentration of 3G towers...3 to all bars lit with 190K down and 50K up. I called VM about it and never really got an answer as to why I'm getting results like this. They reset my 3G which helped for about 2 to 3 days, then it reverted back to the weirdness. Spending $300 for another phone with advertised 4G and getting poor performance would really be upsetting. Not to mention the purchase cost of the Triumph... One thought I had. I do have the $5 a month full replacement insurance on the Triumph. I thought maybe since VM is discontinuing the Triumph wait, see how the HTC actually performs, if it looks like actual 4G then the Triumph could have a catastrophic accident and be replaced with the HTC :D Not sure how long VM will keep Triumph's in stock, but since they will not take the Triumph on a trade in this might be an option. After taking the plunge and purchasing the Triumph I read and found that the Triumph is a mix match of parts, potentially a re-branded phone and not really manufactured by Motorola at all. There are way too many similarities with the Huawei Ideos X6. I'm sure since Google just acquired Motorola Mobility (the cell phone design and manufacturing portion of Motorola) the Triumph has no hope at all. I'm sure Google will look at it and give it a Pffft and move on. Now that I've ranted about this, has anyone had solid 3G coverage with actual 3G speeds with the Triumph? It makes the HTC with 4G sort of a Pandora's Box IMO.

It identifies itself as a Foxconn device via USB. Apparentl Foxconn makes the Huwei also. That said, how many Moto phones are actually manufactured by Moto? Who knows?

It isn't a surprise they will drop the Triumph, the Evo V 3D is at the same price-point, so the Triumph makes little sense.

I don't see how the support for it could be less than it has been already, though.

I've gotten ~2.2Mbps speeds from mine. I could get them day-to-day, but they also would randomly drop to much slower speeds. That was really the issue for me, the inconsistency with the speed.

Had it as high as 2.4 down and as low as 50kb, but on average it's around 300-400kb in low coverage areas and 800kb-1mb in stronger areas.

I get good 3G reception with mine here in the West Michigan area and down to the windy city, have no problems whatsoever..hope I can still continue to use my Triumph on VM, it is a good fit for me, as I am not all that much of a phone "tekkie" I just enjoy all the features it has (Large screen, good cameras, both still and video, all sorts of apps and games, etc.), I don't make a lot of calls with it either (that's what my home phone is for) and I don't plan on investing a couple hundred more bucks for another phone.

Screw you, VM and Motorola.

The reality is that they probably can't find a good price. They'd have to lower the price of their other phones since the Evo will be at the top of the chain. Triumph would have to be 150-200, Slider would have to be like 100-150, and the optimus 50-100. I imagine they'd be terrified to see such low prices for their phones.

Man first the LG optimus and now the triumph. Good thing i to have the insurance on it. It will either be the evo or the one v if it breaks. I hope this wont stop g60. And mantara.

The triumph was a sacrificial lamb. It was their first real smartphone entry yet they still allowed the $25 plan people to keep their deal. Now that we know those folks won't be able to keep their plans on newer smart phones it's a no-brainer. Of course they will discontinue the MT because it's standing in the way of revenue.

The triumph is pretty much 200 everywhere I go lol, was 220 at Walmart yesterday

You know I said in my other post on here about this now it's confirmed. They have stopped selling the MT here in Virginia so no surprise to me to see this story.I'm glad VM left me an extra MT that is clean (no root/stock ROM) I will send that back for the EVO while still running on my MT :)

Does any one know off hand. When you send in a phone to vm for replacement through their 5 a month insurance. How much is the deductible? Just want to know. And no I'm not planning insurance fraud.
;)

You can say that Virgin Mobile took a dump on this phone, but I would primarily blame Motorola. Virgin should not have to be responsible for the subpar quality of Motorola products. I would blame 90% of the horrid experience on this phone at stock with Motorola, and I will never buy one of their phones again! I mean, come on, the Optimus V was an entry level phone, and LG pushed it up to Gingerbread! And this high-end phone? Pfft! They want us to buy the new ones already! Well, I'm not gonna cave into crony capitalism like this! You make a product, now stand by it like HTC, Google, LG, and the others! But I plan on supporting this phone with documentation and forum help for quite a while. I'm not going to practically take a dump on ANYBODY who cashed out their hard-earned money on this phone! I also don't plan on leaving it! I bet we, the community, can do a better job than Motorola could even muster of doing! Heck, if we had the resources, theoretically, we should start our own company! We sure do a better job of providing support and timely updates here on Android Forums than Moto could ever even dream of! And all of this as a hobby, not a job! Motorola should be paying US! They should just go home and sit around watching the paint dry! Not mad at Virgin Mobile, but Motorola. (Sorry for the rant, just had to vent my anger.) P.S. I hope the moderators aren't offended, I am not mad at anybody besides Motorola. In fact, I think you guys here are great for supporting this phone and providing us with a means to support this phone properly, and I wouldn't even really blame Virgin Mobile. They were even nice enough to replace my two defective Motorola Triumph's. So they gave me great support! If you think I did not express my dissatisfaction properly, edit this post. But I think I done it as properly as I could have, and I also believe that I have enough reason to be upset.

Actually I would blame Virgin Mobile an Moto equally... It's up to the carrier to have the manufacturer make the phone. Now what Moto shouldn't have done is rebranded a phone... Then again, they kinda had to to fit the price point I guess.

I mean, come on, the Optimus V was an entry level phone, and LG pushed it up to Gingerbread!

No they didn't... It's still on 2.2... there has been one security update and that's it (at least from what I can tell, someone correct me if I am wrong)

And this high-end phone? Pfft! They want us to buy the new ones already! Well, I'm not gonna cave into crony capitalism like this! You make a product, now stand by it like HTC, Google, LG, and the others!

Again this isn't fully Moto's fault... Vm should be mostly to blame. The carrier gets to decide to roll out an update or not... Moto usually supports their devices... And anyways LG doesn't support all their devices. Samsung doesn't support all their devices... HTC support's most of them for a while... Moto isn't the only one that doesn't support all of their devices...

But I plan on supporting this phone with documentation and forum help for quite a while. I'm not going to practically take a dump on ANYBODY who cashed out their hard-earned money on this phone! Not gonna dis you here or anything, but one of the main reasons that the MT doesn't have any 100% fully functional (non stock) roms is because Moto won't release full source code for everything...

We sure do a better job of providing support and timely updates here on Android Forums than Moto could ever even dream of!

You think so? If Moto wanted to they could send out updates of 100% fully functional roms faster... They have all the source and wouldn't take them long... But since Moto hasn't given any updates for the MT I would agree with you right now...

And all of this as a hobby, not a job! Motorola should be paying US!

Why? It would be cheaper and easier for them to make it... They don't have to make updates for phones anyways.

do you think with google purchase of motorola, that would help out our chance of getting the full source code release since there will be no support for the phone.

Sorry about that. Just still figuring out how these things work. :) But I still believe that device manufacturers and carriers should at least stand by their products. My mistake, though, with regards to the Optimus V. It was just a security patch, not an upgrade to Gingerbread. But how come Motorola hasn't at least issued a GPS patch and driver updates for the touchscreen for the Triumph? They should at least patch the Triumph. That wouldn't take nearly as much work as upgrading to Gingerbread, yet it would still fix most of the problems with the phone on stock. If I ran Motorola, I'd at least make sure my phone worked before I shipped it out. But alas, I forget how greedy companies are... They want us to buy a new phone! Hopefully this nonsense will stop one day and Google will start expanding the Nexus line.

;)

For the Triumph, deductible is $100 dollars because it is in plan C, I can try to find the chart...

HERE is the chart with the phones' deductibles. I suspect the Evo V will be in the same category as the Triumph

I don't plan on leaving the triumph...well at least not today :D:D:D:D maybe it's the beer talking :beerglass::beerglass: I just had (2) pints of 24oz happiness so I can't really make heads or tails right now haha....ask me again tomorrow

Thanks for the info 100 bucks sounds steep but oh well its better than buying another phone. On that note i hope it lasts along time I'm not THAT exited about the evo. Plus rooting HTC if alot more work than Ginger break/just plug it in in dl mode.
