Why are you flashing mk5 and various modems? Are you still on 4.3? Youre not updating to KitKat? I'm just curious because you seem to have started flashing old files at random.

It's been a while since I flashed a phone. The last one was on boost mobile. I've never had a phone react this way and I can't seem to find someone else who has the same problem with the same device. So I'm just sort of shooting in the dark. I'm open to suggestions and criticism. I'd just like my phone to function again.

I followed the steps of the guide. Phone can't find network(no signal), no mobile data(3G/4G), and doesn't identify Virgin at the carrier. I realize I've made a mistake somewhere along the way. Is it clear to someone what part of the process I've messed up?

You can use Odin to flash the ndc.tar (4.4.2 KitKat) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53219966
Also get an app from the play store called "refresh customization" it will reprovision your phone for VM which may fix your data problem. You can try just the app if you don't want to do the official KitKat update, it was just a suggestion but I realize some ppl want to stay on 4.3.
But alot of us have already updated. Mk5 is 4.3 and essentially outdated. If you choose to update, you can reroot the same way as mk5 same files and all.

Great, thank you so much for the analysis and suggestion. For the Odin flash; I put the phone in download mode. Do I but the ndc.tar into the PDA field of Odin or phone field? I'm not super familiar with Odin's options and I don't want to mess up the Philz recovery do-dad. I have no incentive to stay with an outdated ROM, so I'd like to get current. =)

Put it in the phone field. Also you will have to reroot and reinstall philz. The NDC.tar will put you to stock unrooted KitKat.

Alright. I went through those steps. NDC.tar, Phliz, Stock Rom, NDC modem update, SuperSu and now I'm back up and running with root access. I am fixed, up and running. Very grateful.

My one last tweak I'd like to accomplish is flashing a Rom that will be kinder to my battery life. Other functions would be nice as well, but battery life is my biggest concern. Do you have any suggestions Rom wise? =)

Thanks again you guys.

Glad you got it all worked out.

Can I use this method to root version 4.4.2? I don't want to install the ROM that gives me 4.4.3, because I want a different ROM. When I rooted the Galaxy Ring, it was super easy...but trying to root this phone is giving me a headache =/

EDIT: I ended up using towelroot. How come this guide doesn't include it? It's a one click easy way to root!

Its in the thread a few posts back from here. This method is a little better because you know what you're flashing. But towelroot works. Make sure you get SuperSU from the play store. And you'll need flashify to install your custom recovery now.

Ok got a replacement and the root method in op isnt working for me.This replacement has different baseband than my wifes andcshe just had and update.Any help in the rite direction would be great.model # also has a T in it.See pic

Edit:found out whats going on.

I'm not a programmer, just a regular Jane trying to fix my phone. Last week it rebooted itself and got stuck on the download screen. After flashing it the other day I can make phone calls and send/receive text messages, but cannot find VM data service. It seems to be only directed to Sprint data now. The VM splash screen is now the Sprint splash screen etc. I downloaded an md5 file that did not work with Odin. I managed to use a custom program that contained its own md5 file that at least gave me back my phone and text service.

Here is my question. If I follow the instructions on the OP, will that return me to VM service?
