Root Virgin Mobile issue

PMUSER

Newbie
Hey I know this is probably the wrong place to post this, but I recently have noticed that Virgin has done something with my account.

I used to use the Minutes Checker Virgin app and it worked just this past weekend, but now it says I don't have an account.

Now I could chalk this up to the app needs to be updated except I just got an email from Facebook saying that my provider does not acknowledge my account as an active phone number.

So now I am in full panic mode except my phone and texts and 3G are all working fine and I am able to login just fine to the Virgin website its really weird and I wondered if anyone else is experiencing any of this nonsense.

The only thing I can think is that recent post about Virgin cracking down on root users. No clue

People have been having trouble with the minute checker for some time now. It has to do with the network upgrades and the new TOS. The general consensus that I get is that the api that the minute checker, and possibly facebook, uses has been changed with the network upgrade, so it can no longer connect.

Now I read those comments, but isn't it weird that my accounts happened just this week and people have been whining about the Minutes Checker for 2 months now. It is almost as if they are slowly doing something to each account

Yeah, from what I've gathered they tried doing them all at once and their system choked, so they've been doing it in batches for the last 2-3 months.

Thanks! That works great. Now I am less paranoid and I have my minutes checker back. I really need to keep up with xda news. It seems they fix all kinds of broken apps

I don't know which thread to ask this question so I'm gonna ask it here, My status bar on my VM O E says 3g but when I do a ping test it says the network is 1xRTT Why is this the case, do we not have 3g???

Also when I go to (##33284#) it says it's configured for 1XRTT

We do have 3G. It was a defect with the phone when it came out. Any of the Stock based ROMs that aren't built off of CM9 will have that bug.

I had the same problem. I went into the diag setup, set the phone number and the MID to 1111111111, rebooted and then went to system, activate phone. Once I did that it connected at 3G.

When I go to diag it asks for "service code"

The service code is your MSL. But that isn't the problem. Do you get internet access on the phone? Depending on your area depends on whether or not you get 3G data. Check the coverage map on VM's website to find out.

Sleipnir isn't CM9 based. But CM9 has a bug where you're always on 1x but you get 3G speeds so it doesn't really matter much. Sleipnir is stock based. Meaning it will always say 3G in the statubar regardless if you're network is reporting 3G or 1x. That's the bug/defect that was included when LG/VM released the phone. There isn't anything you can do to change the phone to actually make it show 1x if you're on 1x.

Now if you're actually having issues with never getting real 3G (like you would be in an area with strong data connection but still stuck on 1x being reported by that app you used.) Then you would need to obtain your MSL which is the service code. But you need to be careful with what you edit in the programming because that's where all your MMS settings, Internet Settings, and even activation settings are at and if you change the wrong one and screw it up the phone can be quite hard to get activated again after that. :P It you only edit the data profile like mentioned above then you should be fine.

Your MSL is located in plain text somewhere in the system. (Lucky for you! Some of us had to do a long process of getting it.) It will only be located in plain text if you have Giantpunes custom kernel installed which is automatically installed with every ROM except for CM9. So if you're running Sleipnir you can locate it.

BUT I don't remember where it is. :P

Artine, or somebody who knows; Could you point him to where the text file with the MSL is located at? :]

Thanks, I just switched back to CM9 for the Data speed!!!
All's good so far thanks again

Alright! Glad it worked for you. Just remember with CM9 you're 99% of the time going to be on 1x. But most of the time you'll have speeds that are 3G speeds.

When I go to diag it asks for "service code"

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Turn the phone on.
2. Dial ##847446#.
3. Now, you are on the programming menu.
4. You will see: 1)Activate Phone, 2)View, 3)Edit and 4)Done.
5. Select Edit.
6. You will now see MDN and you may see your phone number at the bottom.
7. Delete your number and enter the number 1 ten times. Press ok.
8. You should see now MSID and some numbers at the bottom. Delete them
all.
9. And now enter the number 1 ten times again. Press Ok.
10. You will be back on the programming menu.
11. Scroll down and Select "Done". The phone will turn off and on by
itself.

Once the phone is back do step 2 again, then choose Activate Phone.

This worked for me.
