Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Free up /system storage

emress

Lurker
I just got a new Virgin Mobile LG F3 phone from Amazon and updated to LG720ZV6 (after bricking my first LG F3 and after several days not being able to unbrick). I rooted using saferoot and restored all of my old programs with Titanium backup and re-linked to SD using Link2SD. Looking at the storage info within Link2SD I see that I only have 2% of my /system storage free (35 MB of 1.19GB remaining). This can't be good. What are the safest ways to free up storage in the /system folder? I'm pretty wary of bricking my phone right now.

If you need a list of what's safe to remove from your /system folder, here's a good place to start: Safe apps to remove
What LeslieAnn has listed there is safe to remove. Works with V5 or V6 software versions. I added two apps near the end of the thread. With all of that stuff removed, I have 215 MB free of space on /system (according to Link2SD).

Even after removing apps from /system, if you still need more space, either make /data/sdext2 bigger, and/or add this script. Study the info before using it: http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-f3/801368-mod-app2external_sd-fixed-duplicate-files.html

I used that script before, but I uninstalled it after Link2SD Plus got the data linking option. I also use the latest GL2SD to link obb files to my SD card's main partition. It also helps that I use a fast 64 GB Class 10 card! :) (5 GB for sdext2 using ext4, the rest for FAT32 partition.)

Well there is an unbrick method on this forums actually lol

Thanks, I tried to unbrick it for several days to no avail. I got to the same place as several people in this unbrick thread, where the LG flash utility gets to 3% and fails at the first step of flashing the PrimaryGPT. Tried several computers and several cables. I may try yet again on an older computer running Windows Vista (not Windows 7) but I reached a point where I just needed a phone, and $80 for another LG F3 didn't seem so bad.

removing system apps will NOT give you anymore user available space, but integrating updates of system app will, link2sd can this now. Low "/system" storage should not give you any problems since items in there are pretty much static
