Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] How to stop contacting network?

Hi guys, I am looking for a way to get my phone to stop trying to activate itself and stop contacting the cell tower. I dont use this phone for calls or texting, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this.

put it in airplane mode. this will disable all the radios.

That's what I have been doing, but it becomes a hassle every time I turn the phone on as it keeps trying to activate

I am looking for a more permanent solution

I did remove the sim card (and sadly lost it in the process) but if I am not mistaken, I think the sim card is only for the 4G connectivity, it would still try to connect to 3G and the cell network.
