Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Invisible SD card

Bazbo

Lurker
Hello,
How do I get music apps to look on my SD card instead of internal storage? They just say "no files". If I move something from the SD card to the internal storage, it finds it just fine. Some podcast apps have similar problems, but not Onecast. A clue is that the directory for internal storage is called "SDcard0" for some reason. I did not so name it. I presume this is fooling the apps into storing everything there. When apps let me set where to put files, I can set the right directory, but not all apps have this capability. What can I do?

you have to wait for it to finish scanning the sd card, it takes for ever to do it though, and it has to do it every time the phone boots

Depends on the sdcard... Nowadays most of us use 32gb or 64gb which on a low class card is gonna take forever. I have a brand new 32gb class 10 I believe. Scans everything in 30 seconds.

I'm afraid that's not it. Even after it's done scanning, the SD card is invisible to some apps, but not to others. I can use the file browser to find audio files, and play them one at a time. I get a dialog that lets me choose an audio app to play them. But if I then launch that same app, I can't get to the file it just played. It will just say "no files". It can only find them if I move them to internal storage. Totally defeats the purpose of having the card.

In settings go to storage and scroll down. Does it say you have an external card plugged in or does it have the mount option greyed out? If so, it means your sdcard is likely bad. Mine was and I had this problem.

It shows up just fine where you described. Some apps have no problem reading and writing to it. Some apps can't find it at all.
