Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Kingo Android Root, Link2SD & the update

I rooted my phone using Kingo Android Root, partitioned my SD card using Mini Tool Partition Wizard, and I use Link2SD to link files to my SD card to free up more internal storage space. I have not removed any bloatware yet. This is my first android phone, so I apologize in advance for any noobishness. I have done tons of reading at this and other forums to get what little knowledge I have.

Before I read about the possibility of bricking my phone if I installed the update while rooted, I tried to install the update. It didn't brick my phone, it just didn't work. So, then I tried unlinking all of my linked files (and then of course, because of storage issues, I had to uninstall all my apps), and I removed root using Kingo, and tried to install the update again. Same result, still didn't work. Any thoughts as to why?

So, then I read about installing the update. I have downloaded the LS720ZV7_upgrade.zip and the CWMT_ZV7_Windows-Installer.zip. If installing the V7 update will cause me to lose root, should I unlink all my apps and uninstall them prior to installing the update? There won't be enough storage on the phone for all the apps that are on it, if I lose root. That can't be good. And I'm hoping I will still be able to use Kingo to root the phone after the update, but I have tr.apk (towelroot), just in case.

I have had these files for days now, afraid to make a move, but that pesky update reminder is driving me batsh*t. Any help (or "there-there's") would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Installing the V7 upgrade.zip via CWMRT doesn't make you loose root. Your linked apps will still be linked. I've used the clockworkmod method of updating and all of my apps are still there and I'm still rooted

Why the update didn't work depends on what, if any, changes you made after rooting. As for your personal apps you've installed and linked, technically you should not need to uninstall anything. The data folder and external sdcard's second partition is not effected so your apps are still there after the ota update. Yes, the problem is if you are unable to gain root (ymmv) the apps will have to be re-installed since Link2SD won't work without root. If you do gain root then it's just a matter of opening Link2SD and rewrite the link script from the side menu and all your linked app will be working again after reboot. Hope that helps answer some of your questions.
