Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Link2SD and Integrate Update Into System

I use Link2SD to link files to my external SD Card. I read that when an app is listed as "updated" it means that there are two copies of the apk--the original and the updated one--although I admit, I am unclear on whether the apk is an installer or the app itself... Anyway, in an effort to free up yet even more space, I decided to try the Integrate Update Into System, which I think is supposed to integrate the updated apk into the ROM--or something like that.

I used Titanium Backup to backup everything and then chose two apps to try it on--Hangouts and Maps. (I know TB has an integrate feature as well, but I used Link2SD's.) It said it was successful, and then I rebooted my phone. The first thing I noticed was that my Navigation icon was missing. Checking with TB, I discovered that Hangouts and Maps were no longer installed on my phone.

When I attempt to restore Maps with TB, it just hangs and never restores so I have to kill the task. I haven't tried restoring Hangouts. So, then I tried reinstalling Maps from the Play Store, and it says that there is insufficient storage space to install. How can there not be enough space? There was enough space to have Maps and Hangouts installed in the first place.

Sigh...When I was checking things out with ES File Explorer, it looks like Maps is still there in system/app, so what gives? I don't know why Link2SD uninstalled the apps (or did it really?). I don't care about Hangouts, but I would like to have Maps back. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thank you.

I have a similar setup to save space. Here is what I do:

Don't link system apps. (It shouldn't let you anyway.)

Updates to system apps do go in /data/app. Link2SD might link these updates, you'll know if you get the notification that it's linked after an update. Remove these links.

Titanium Backup has its own 'integrate into system' function which has never caused problems for me. Use this instead of Link2SD's.

Of note: Google Play services updates can cause problems if integrated into system - if I try to do this I'll see it 'unexpectedly stop' and then try to restart ad infinitum. Strangely, this is a time when Link2SD's integrate has worked better for me.

Always reboot after integrating from either app.

Whenever I get updates for system apps, I always use link2sd and integrate update to system just to keep my system apps up to date in my nandroid backups and never have any problem. Might be the combination of tb and link2sd

Good and helpful information regarding Link2SD, thank you. Any suggestions on how I might go about putting Maps back on my phone? I have 700+ storage space left on my phone, so it must be looking at some other place to install Maps because it keeps telling me that there is not enough room. I'm tempted to try to uninstall Maps (since ES File Explorer shows it in system/app) and then try to reinstall it (since I have a copy of the apk)...someone talk me out of this please...

you can always try to paste the maps.apk over the current one in system/apps with a file browser. or delete it and move that copy to system/apps and make sure you reboot after u do that. i dont see why you cant just install it from google play tho.
