Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] MAYDAY! system update killed my fone

Member
ok long story short
LG optimus f3 (virgin mobile)
rooted? Succesful!
App2External_SD? Successful

CWM? unsuccesful implementation.. or so i thought.

This morning i woke up to find a system update notice (mind you i'm firing 1/4 cylinders cause i just woke)
Click update.. asked to wipe/install ? "OK"... stupid me.

THis is when i discover i've actually got CWM running perfect.. cause now its in a boot loop.
-----------------------
Secure booting error!

Cause: Boot unLock, so boot success!
--------------------------

wtf??! then it boots into cwm.. where i have no backups.

anyone got a good rom that wont kill my data?

I'm in the same situation is nyktovus. I wiped everything. Basically, I went through every wipe and format menu option in CWM and deleted everything. Then I installed loonycgb2's rooted rom and I'm still getting the secure booting error. Once I get access to a Windows computer, I'm going to try the unbricking instructions and see if that fixes.

I can't believe I did this to my phone. It makes me feel like an old man. :-P

**As with any guidance provided you assume all risk using the information. You always run the risk of bricking your phone. All information provided by myself and the below forum members is given as guidance only.**

Like many I was stuck in a soft-brick after accidentally accepting the LG720ZV6 update on my rooted device.

I had to follow the VM unbrick method to obtain a workable phone.

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mobile-optimus-f3-all-things-root/779320-unbrick-vm-sprint-f3.html

I was having issues getting into download mode, but thankfully Sinner67 provided this valuable information.

"What you have to do is make sure the drivers are installed, plug the usb cable into the laptop, press on the volume up and volume down buttons and plug the usb cable into your phone. Do not use the power button."

The guidance worked perfectly and allowed me to follow the unbrick method without issues.

I then forced the update.

Force OTA update

If you want to force the update go to application manager>all>google service frameworks>clear data>force stop and then check for updates again, and it should (should) push the update.

Once phone was on LG720ZV6 I followed the information from duper1 outlined in the following link with no issues.

followed this .. now my fone TURNS ON.. gotta root and cwm all over. might force the update first.

There is a new way to supposed root for after update as motochopper doesn't work on V6. Then I'm am not sure how cwmr will work either. I followed another link to prevent update harassment.

apparantly i cant root the fone after that new LS720ZV6 update is in place.

HELP! do i have to unbrick all over or is there another root mod that will work with this update installed?

ok.. had to unbrick it a second time and NOT RUN THE UPDATE..

then i could succesfully root it and apply the cwm.
from there i installed Loony's stock rooted rom :)

now its time to make my fone mine again : )and BACK IT UP
also.. applying this first..
If you're rooted you can use the Disable Service app to turn off the update service, it works on the Metro version and I'd think it should work on others-

Motochopper said ok for me too but SU did NOT work! I didn't try CWMR as what good is it without root :-). I think I read elsewhere superroot may work but again I went back to V5 as I know everything works.

Why do they want to take the benefits of root away? I bought one of these for my wife and she only had like ten apps on it before "low space warning". My rooted F3 allows so many more apps options fun and function.

I see the LG drivers have to installed on the PC. But was wondering, to do this, does ADB software have to be installed on your PC or does this process included any ADB related files needed?

Thanks

Nope, everything is in the zipped folder. Download it, extract all the files, connect your phone and run the install.bat. As long as you've done everything right the phone should be rooted in less than a minute.
