Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] No MMS in Hangouts

I have the new version of the Google Hangouts app that will act as the SMS client if you let it, and I like it for the most part.

However, I am not able to retrieve MMS messages of any type over both Wi-Fi and/or Data while Hangouts is the default messaging client. I get a persistent "retrieving" message while it is downloading and after a few minutes Hangouts is "retrying" to download it. After the downlink triangle disappears from Wi-Fi and/or Data Hangouts is still trying, and fails... I give up and set the stock Messaging app as the default and let the network feed them to me again later to finally see them.

Does anyone else have the same issue?
It looks like there really isn't any way to change any of the more advanced settings in the app so that might be an issue.
 
I have the same issue. I just got the LG Optimus F3 on Virgin Mobile. I had the Optimus V before that and have always had trouble receiving MMS and group messages from iPhone users. I installed Hangout this week but I had the same problem as you. I tried GO SMS but it was terrible and I uninstalled it. I'm now trying Handcent (which I used on the Optimus V but had problems with pictures) and I'm hoping it'll handle these messages. Everyone I work with has iPhones except me and I don't get their group messages. They seem to get converted to MMS.

**UPDATE**
Handcent receives group messages from iPhone users and keeps the message in group form. Woohoo!
 
I gave up on Hangouts and am now using Textra for it's skin functionality, but still have the same issue...

Good thing that the stock Messaging app says up to date with the texts I send with Textra. I do not need group messaging capabilities so I am fine there and don't receive MMS too often anyways.
 
I use 8sms it's the Kitkat stock messaging and it has a dark skin to it and original time stamps as well as other cool features. Give it a try!
