Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] VM LS720V8 - Updating, Rooting, and Unbricking

Will manually installing the stock v8 zip from cwm work?

In other words, is it just the OTA update that soft-bricks if you have cwm or the firmware itself?

Yes, the stock rom can be installed in both cwm and twrp. There is more information in the stock rom thread regarding instructions and requirements.

So I got this v8 update today and am no longer rooted. Only changes I had made to my phone was root it (with towelroot) before v8 update, and install the sd card swap memory mod. I had not installed any custom roms or recoveries, now I have a game that cannot finds its (massive) downloaded files (walking dead game) because I installed it while swapped.

Towelroot no longer supports device (everyone knows this) and downloaded stump which says its already rooted. A couple people already posted about this, but figured I would add my own similar case to the mix.

Awaiting a hopeful update from someone who has managed to resolve this, I cant play my WD game until i swap back the memories (500mb just won't fit on internal)
*super sad face*

Re-root with stump root, then re-run smanager to enable the script super user permissions and enable it to run at boot like you did before. You may need to re-link the apps when finished

Remember to install superuser and busy box after root.

Any answer regarding my question about my dirty flash? It went well but....When I ran stumproot it said already rooted but SuperSU was totally messed up stating that the binary was not there.
It wouldn't let me get the binary. :(
Recommendations?
I'm using this on page plus so I have to deactivate the self service stuff. (rename the apk) but root explorer couldn't gain root access no matter what I tried. :(

The problem is your device is not truly rooted. Stump Root does not officially support the F3 at this time although it will root our F3 using bruteforce. It's probably just a glitch. Hopefully, if/when Team Codefire add support for the F3 that false reading will be fixed...I don't know. You will have to use LGFT and start from scratch. The zv8 bin file will be added to the Unbrick thread soon but until then flash zv7 bin, wait for the OTA update and use it to go to zv8. Then try Stump Root again. :)

I just made an app that does all that for you so you do not need to do any manual modification to the system:

[MOD][APP] SDCard Swapper Fx3

I'm currently on V7 and rooted, but I haven't installed a custom recovery. I've started receiving notifications for a system update (which I assume is V8). I've just been dismissing the notifications. Can I stop the notifications without installing the update? Should I just install the update?

it says the device is rooted, can't re-root, the button is grey, can't click.

Is there anything I can do to help myself?

You may need to reset your phone to a fresh state by running the unbrick guide. If zv7, let the phone prompt for update, then update. Once on zv8, use stump root to root

son of a B*&^%..

accidently allowed the update .. was on a rooted v7, (towelroot.. odexed bin .. i think)

it rebooted and now i'm chilling stuck on an LG logo..

ideas?

If you can't restore a backup in recovery. All you can do is use LGFT to flash a firmware bin file.

unbricking now.. back to stock v7.. hopefully. this is SOOOOOO relentless.. when are we gonna have a fone that doesnt go into nag mode and or brick mode every few months..

As someone who is usually on the front line when these updates come out. I couldn't agree with you more!

When this phone was my daily, i think i unbricked it at least 4 times in three months. Might be tedious, but sure is a life saver!

Wow, I couldn't begin to count how many times I've use it, lol. You are oh so right, it is a lifesaver.

Thank you, sammyz!

using stump now.. bruteforcing.. 3200.. .. ... 3400...

Big suggestion/reminder. Make sure to do a CWM backup right after you get it rooted so that in the future, if you brick it, it will be much easier to fix. I usually keep two backups, one right after fresh install/root, and I make a new one each week.

Glad you got your device up and running again

Big thx to this thread author, I followed ur guild and it worked, some steps are different. Took me a while to get it to work, maybe because I am a newb.

I flashed my rom back to v7, then accept the system update to v8, then run stump root. Sounds so easy, but it wasn't easy to me.

Thx to the thread author again.
