Root [Virgin Mobile] [TUTORIAL] CM10.1 on VM GS3

eh, I really didn't use it at all so I wouldn't be comfortable telling you it was perfect but I did have a few errors pop up when I was using it for about the 5 minutes I had it.

I didnt update the firmware because with stock MG2 I have JB bootloaders. That said I have never been able to get past the kernel boot with any custom d2spr or d2vmu ROM no matter what. I dread having to flash the d2spr bootloaders. I just dont like messing with bootloaders.

So far I've taken any custom d2spr ROM and changed the top assert lines to add my vmu / MG2 phone, zipped and resigned ROM, flashed with no success.

Has anyone with a Stock MG2 phone (came with JB bootloaders) been able to flash any ROM?

I followed this tutorial and it actually worked. Bad news is, I lost root access. I tried following the rooting guide for Sprint Galaxy S3 that someone posted in the replies, it worked and didn't work. I have a newer version of ClockworkMod...I think it's 6.0.1.4, but no root access. I tried flashing that Team Epic zip file a dozen times, still nothing. I would love to regain root access...mostly because I hate ads. That's the reason why I rooted in the first place. I love the look of 10.1. Another thing is the Developer Settings don't show either. Are there any suggestions about regaining root access?

If you are still getting this error when installing 10.1:

assert failed getprop ('ro.build.product.device") == "d2spr"
blah blah blah
getprop ('ro.build.product.device") == "d2spi"
blah blah blah
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

Move the ROM zip file to your EXTERNAL SD. I made the same mistake and put it on the INTERNAL storage at first. You cannot install a ROM from internal storage.

So I tried to flash again today and it still gets stuck at the splash screen. No animation whatsoever. Makes me want to drop kick this phone because I never had problems before flashing other phones.

I don't get the error because I edit those lines in the install script with d2vmu and MG2. Internal flashing seemed to work fine. Just doesn't get past kernel loading.

If you get stuck at the splash screen - hard power down (or battery pull), and go back to CWM and do a factory wipe / reset, wipe cache and davlik cache, then flash everything from OP again. That worked for me when I got stuck the first time.

I'm going to try that. Do you have a newer S3?

I'm not quite sure. I bought mine about 2 or 3 weeks ago and it seems like people who have purchased their respective S3's lately have had similar issues in trying to load different ROM's.

I think those (like myself) that bought the phone as a 4.2.1 MG2 have issues.

I have not flashed the Sprint JB bootloaders so that may impact some things. The factory MG2 phones have the MG2 JB bootloaders already (not Sprints)

I've only had 1 ROMs kernel boot for me. A CM10.1 version. I've used it on other 10.1 ROMs with some success.

Update on my post above.

With the Sprint CWM (In sticky of this forum) and my stock MG2 JB bootloaders Ive been able to flash 4.2.1 ROMs but no higher.

Has anyone with the newer factory MG2 phones flashed the sprint bootloaders in this thread? If so were you successful in flashing any ROM?

I'm using the original bootloader from this thread, works fine with cm 10.2 nightlies. Just flashed the latest

Someone found a fix for 4G earlier in thread. I haven't been able to try it because I havent had time to get this rom on my phone.

GREAT NEWS VIRGIN MOBILE USERS!!!

Last night after a bit of tinkering I found the correct APN settings to get 4G LTE fully functioning for the Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3

Go to your Mobile Network Setting>Access Point Names and you should see 4 APN settings. Ignore the ones that say APN0 those are already correct and don't need any editing. The other 2 should say APN2 or something similiar.

Edit the 2 APN2 settings with following details

<apn type="default,mms" mmsc="http://mmsc.vmobl.com" mmsprotocol="null" mmsport="81" mmsproxy="205.239.233.136" port="null" proxy="null" password="*" server="*" user="Sprint" apn="n.ispsn" mnc="01" mcc="001"/>

And then make sure to hit the menu button and save the settings after you edit. In my case after I edited each APN2 and save my changes, they both disappeared from the list of APNs, but as I said 4G LTE was fully functioning afterwards.

I would really appreciate if people could let me know if this works for them. I am using ShabbyPenquin's Build of CM10.2

Does this include MMS and LTE both working together ?

Sadly, no.
I flashed cm 10.1 a while ago and tried this and it didnt work so i gave up. Today I decided to flash cm 10.2 (I downloaded the latest nightly off their website) and changed the apns and now lte works but still no mms.
Also, I noticed that even before I changed the apns I was getting 4g.
Im just finally happy that i can finally run cyanogenmod with working lte, I was so sick of touchwiz.

Okay, here's what I did.
I flashed cm 10.2 (I downloaded the latest nightly off the cyanogenmod website) then I went to settings, then more... (under wireless and networks), then mobile networks, then access point names and I followed what acewonders posted, and BAM!!!, I have 4g.

Also, I have noticed an issue where after i disconnect from wifi i have to restart my phone to get any kind of mobile network connection (I can still send texts though)

okay awesome! I wish that would work for 10.1 though because I'm sure that 10.2 still isn't stable?
