Root Virgin vs Sprint Evo 3d - Bezel quality

So I had an issue with my Sprint branded Evo 3D and they sent me a "replacement" which is a refurbished "Virgin Mobile" branded Evo V. My weird roaming issue wasn't fixed so now I have two fully functional phones, and I'm trying to decide which to keep.
I've already activated the replacement handset, but I've noticed it's already getting a ton of little nicks in the bezel, something my first phone never had issue with.
Upon further inspection, it looks like the virgin model is a bit "bigger" it seems wider, and I think it's actually made with a different type of plastic, which when right next to the Sprint model feels and looks cheap. has anyone else seen this?

I think I might reactivate & keep the sprint model just because of this. Thoughts?
 
I have the sprint branded one so I can't say, but it wouldnt surprise me if they cut some costs and used cheaper materials. I personally like having the sprint logo on mine.
 
They should be the same build, and in the first build cases, the same logos too.

Mine has the sprint logo on the top right. :P

But i've rooted the evo 3d for some people before and compared, they're the same.

I too had a sprint logo phone and was sent a VM logo phone. To me, both felt the same. The only noticeable difference on the two I received was the power button. The VM case doesn't produce the click like the Sprint one. Other than that, couldn't differentiate. I eventually returned the sprint phone.
 
I love my Sprint branded one. Just seems like it'd be higher quality compared to anything VM puts out.

Well, I've heard different opinions regarding that. For all we know, VM could just be manufacturing the phones with whatever parts they happened to find that week.

What DOES seem appealing about the VM branded phones is that the logo is only on the backplate, so if it's replaced with an Evo 3D one the phone will be completely brandless.
 
Both are the same, almost all parts interchange except boards and body are cdma or gsm specific.

It is possible (quite likely actually) that at some point along the way they slightly cheapened some parts or changed the formula for paint, alloy, and dyes. This could explain the variances we see in some parts, such as the power button, some are touchy, some require effort. This could have happened at any point in production or even multiple times on various parts.

I'm going to go out on a limb and confirm that, not sure what is different but you really have to force it down on the Virgin branded phone I received, especially in the otterbox commuter.

Agreed, If I had a camera I'd try to compare them but I don't quite care enough to do that.

I'm going to keep the Sprint version, I hope that doesn't mess up their warranty records.
 
When the phone was first released and they were all Sprint branded, people were still having variance in the power button. Some were not able to place the phone in a case because it would press the button and others complained about it being quite difficult to press. I believe that because your not actually pressing on the button but a nub in the cover that then presses the switch that normal manufacturing tolerances are to blame.

I replaced the back cover with the one that came with my 3850 mAh QCell battery and I gotta say that the buttons are a huge improvement over the stock cover's buttons they're easy to press, click when I press them, and the feel durable only downside is I have no case...... I definitely recommend the QCell Extended Battery
