I was the same until I tried SwiftKey Beta. I text quite a bit for business and personal, once SwiftKey learns my texting habits it will almost complete my formal texts for me. And the personal texts are amazingly predictive also. This is an amazing technology that will facilitate the rise of the machines. :p

I would never give up my Swype. Before Swype, I couldn't stand the on-screen virtual keyboards. After getting used to Swype, I was without it for a few days when the original beta version stopped working on my phone, and I felt completely lost until I found a version that worked.

Hey, I finally installed something onto my phone...The droid x keyboard! Anyway, there is a warning that the application can collect personal data like passwords, credit card numbers etc as it comes from from a unknown non market source. Should I be concerned?

PS not that I use it, but the vibrate on text does not seem to work?

Thanks

I have seen some really good ones out there, but none matches the speed and stability of Swype on my phone.

And for folks that complain that it is laggy, well, let me just say this:

SwiftKey is pretty sweet, and now in the market. I used Swype for a little while but got tired of it constantly screwing up my input. Switched to using the stock and/or HTC keyboards since I really liked having accurate predictive text. Swiftkey has gone one step further by actually learning what you type and making it far more accurate. Give it a shot.

I like Swype best so far. It more than anything else made me forget about my physical keyboard (except for games). The only thing I don't like in the latest version is that it doesn't delete just part of a URL anymore when holding the backspace key like it used to. Now it erases the whole thing.

I have found myself using 3 different keyboards lately on my Moto Droid. I have been using Smart Keyboard Pro, Swiftkey Beta, and also the HTC keyboard. I use the HTC compact probably the most. It allows for easy one handed typing in portrait that is fast and accurate.

Interesting to note: If you discount the physical KB in the poll above, Swype has the same number of votes as all the others combined as of this posting (33 for Swype, 33 for all the rest not including the physical KB).

I'm new to the android community, as I have just picked up a Droid for my wife and I last night, I'm interested in hearing about Better Keyboard from people who have used it. I don't mind the stock keyboard too much, But my wife is dying to have a keyboard like the storms compact qwerty that she just switched from. Anyone have some insight on how good Better Keyboard is to use in regards to that specific style of input?

Better Keyboard was one of the first apps I purchased from the Market, and it's not bad, having numerous skins you can change around to match the theme you're running. The thing is, since I purchased it, I've discovered Swype and now have a group of color themed Swypes that I match up with the colors of the theme I'm running, and I found a site that lets you create your own color coordinated HTC keyboard from scratch (including one for Froyo roms), so I rarely use Better Keyboard anymore. It kinda got left by the side of the road, due to my changing tastes.

I have been back and forth on swype. I like it for composing, but when entering in email addresses, especially for addresses that are initials, you need to just peck. I kind of wish there was a toggle mode for using sywpe and pecking.
Why do you need a toggle? If you want to peck then peck. Swype doesn't force you to swype.

Where do you get this?

Hey I downloaded the multi-touch keyboard but it wont switch to landscape view, it only appears to work in portrait view. Anyone have any idea on this. I'm using Moto Droid btw.

Nevermind, I had the auto-rotate turned off in the settings. LOL

I wanna give this a shot now that vibrate is working but I gots a question: When I try to install it, it says "the application you are installing will replace another application". I don't want it to replace anything so I canceled. Any ideas?

do you already have a version of it installed??
never seen that before only when i have a older copy of it

Nope. At the moment i've only got the stock virtual keyboard and Smart Keyboard Pro installed.

Someone in the original thread started by Fabolous reported the same thing though...with no resolution :(
