Please help! is it a virus? and how can i fix this?

Wow, that is a new one on me. I know there has been some Android malware, but I did not know how it manifested.

Have you tried just rebooting your Sprint HTC Hero? If that will not work, then pull the battery out. I know you said it restarts itself, but maybe pulling the battery will help. This phenomenon is really strange.

The only 2 things I read of issues that are possible threats was the USB debugging being on and unknown sources being check marked in applications, so I leave them off and turn them on when needed, you could also download AVG free for Android from the market, but still not sure how useful AV programs are for our phones, lol maybe someone else will chime is.

Do you need to leave USB Debugging on when running root apps or when flashing a new ROM? I was not sure about that, so I just left USB Debugging on.

When exactly do you need those options turned on? I would like to follow your practice of turning them off until I need them.

USB debugging is needed to use ADB from the PC, and as for the unknown apps , that is only when you want to download an APK to your AD card and manual load the app yourself without the market, and I always had them on until I started using AVG, I could of simply hit ignored and it would not show up again in AVG but I figured it is as easy to turn on if I need it, lol ;)

Also download AVG and leave those 2 settings open and you will see what AVG does when it does a scan

OK, are you rooted or are you on a stock Rom, if your are stock and nothing works then you might have to flash your RUU back on your phone

BTW, the other nice thing about AVG is it allows you a custom message on the lock screen incase you loose your phone the person can contact you, and yes I know there is an app that does that as that app is already integrated in the AVG app already so the best of both worlds.

Can you tell me where one has to go to lock/erase if AVG is installed on the handset? Is it a website, do we have to register?

I found it: http://www.droidsecurity.com/
