If you say you were rooted, then you were rooted, but I'm not sure I understand... after I rooted my phone, I removed visionary (don't need the app once you're rooted).

If you are trying to unroot and visionary is telling you that you are not rooted, what's the problem?

As far as I know you can't use visionary to root gingerbread. You have to use gingerbreak, but to use gingerbreat you have to have radio S-off

visionary says im rooted but other apps say im not rooted? its very confusing?

It is quite strange... I can only suggest trying to contact people like ChainsDD (the superuser app dev) or the people that made Visionary... perhaps they can help! :)

EDIT - Pothers is right... sorry - I had mis-read your posts... if you updated to GB, then you need to Gingerbreak and downgrade before you can do any rooting!!! When you rooted (originally) you must also have got Radio S-Off, otherwise you cannot gingerbreak!

thanks but do u no how to contact these people?
and do u think that my other thread problem may have caused this?

thanks

Before you try and contact them:

  1. When you rooted, did you get S-Off?
  2. When you say you upgraded, do you mean that you upgraded to Gingerbread from Froyo?

sorry my mistake i rooted with visionary r12
Root / Flash HTC Desire Z / Vision

when i rooted i hit temp root then as soon as itcame back i hit perm root i dont no or havent done anything with s-off,i updated the software from htc site.

Do you have a Desire HD or a Desire Z?

If you have updated to Gingerbread, without Radio S-Off (which is done after the Visionary Temp, then Perm root), then I am not sure about doing gingerbreak... sorry!

can u advice me for my other htc desire hd plz i will be getting it tomorrow which visionary should i use and whats the correct procedure any links.thanks?

i have htc desire hd it worked perfectly fine on it i dont no how or what is ginger bread i just no visionary.

I asked if you had a DHD or a Desire Z, as the link you put up was for the Desire Z, not the DHD.

Gingerbread is the nerw software (Version 2.3) that runs the phone. If you have updated to this, it is non-rootable, which could be why you are having problems. It is possible to downgrade from Gingerbread (called gingerbreaking) to a rootable version of the software (Froyo - 2.2).

Please see the following thread, which has links for all the "how to's" for the DHD - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

If you follow the steps in this thread, you should be able to downgrade and then root (so that you can then un-root) your phone. I say this, as it appears that your phone is not rooted now!

Please note that I have no experience in the problem that you have been talking about and that, after you have followed the instructions to downgrade, you will be pretty much on your own - sorry, but I just don't know what to say!

If you find El Presidente's guide on how to downgrade/root useful, don't forget to click "thanks" :)

thanks for allthe responses i will try the downgrade, when i get my new fone i will pm you again with the full software details and will appreciate if you can then tell me what or how to root it.

thanks again

No problem Shaukat...

when i get my new fone i will pm you again with the full software details and will appreciate if you can then tell me what or how to root it.

Feel free to contact me... will you be getting another Desire HD? If so, the thread with all the links in should have everything you need.

thanks again

Not a problem! :D

No worries mate! :)

Just let me know the software details... If it comes with Gingerbread (2.3) already installed, I know that some versions are not downgradable... we will have to cross that bridge when we get to it! :)

Hi again shaukat!

As per my previous post in this thread, you need to go here http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html and follow the instructions.

and also plz can u tell me what good is rooting?

When you say what good is rooting... do you mean what benefits does it offer?

If so, it gives you full (superuser) access to your device, unlocking the true potential of the Android platform.

Rooting allows you to flash non-standard firmware on your phone... this is great for most people, as nowadays contracts for smartphones are often 2 year long (as with mine)... being able to put different firmware on the phone means that I will not get easily bored by it. The devs for custom firmware make changes often if there are any issues that users encount, something that HTC (for example) are not able to do as quickly (due to the red tape involved)... if you have an issue, you can let the dev know and they can suggest a fix or bring out an update. If you try to do the same with HTC, you wouldn't get passed the first customer service rep you spoke to... you wouldn't be able to speak to the devs at all!

I don't think I need to go on with the reasons why rooting is good... I'll have a look and see if I can find the thread where someone explained it in full. It is worth noting that, by rooting your device, you are voiding the warrantee, so this is doen at your own risk!

this thread is confusing just to read (no offence to anyone)

If things are not sticking, just google "root desire hd jsl" and it'll be the first link ;)
follow my steps, with the collected tools.
simple.

since your current rooting of 2.36.405.8 have messed up, start at step 1 with the RUU so your device is completely fresh.
